"Project: replaced existing driveway and stairs with new cement; installed a new concrete patio I would highly recommend Garcia Concrete Solutions for any cement project. Caesar provided a reasonable estimate and had clear communication throughout the process. They identified a concern with the pitch of the driveway and provided a solution. The workers were always on time and completed the project within the communicated timeframe. We are happy with the work and glad that we chose their company."

"I hired CJ and crew to fix a botched driveway job left unfinished by a previous contractor. The prior contractor created an area where water pooled near the back door, the exact problem I was trying to fix with the new driveway. CJ made at least half a dozen visits to my home throughout the process to be sure everything was done thoroughly and to be sure we were on the same page. The job also included a kitchen stoop which joined up to the driveway. CJ suggested enlarging the platform and adding steps on two sides instead of just one. It looks terrific, and I longer worry about falling off my steps. The crew worked really hard and were there for about 3 days. They were very pleasant and professional. Although there was a delay due to a shortage of concrete, CJ kept in touch with me and there were no surprises--except the fantastic job they did!"

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

You should not attempt to install your own driveway. Whether working with asphalt or pavement, this is a complicated project that requires special equipment. Talk to some nearby asphalt or paving professionals and discuss your particular needs—it’s a good idea to get a few quotes and look at the company’s past work.

The average cost to repair an asphalt driveway is around $2,459 to $2,500. However, prices can range from $100 for minor DIY crack filling to over $4,000 for more extensive professional work. Costs are often calculated per foot, with minor repairs costing $1 to $3 per linear foot and heavier damage like potholes, sinking, or crumbling costing $2 to $5 per linear foot. Patching smaller potholes can cost around $2 to $3 per square foot. The final price depends on the severity and extent of the damage, driveway design, local contractor rates, and whether sealing is included. For major repairs, it is recommended to hire a professional, and you may get a better deal by bundling repair and sealing services together.

If you’re looking for a similar, eco-friendly driveway material, you might consider one of these options:

  • Permeable pavement: This material is sometimes called “pervious” or “porous” pavement; it allows stormwater to drain into the subbase, eliminating storm drain costs.

  • Gravel: Consider paving your driveway with locally sourced gravel. By sourcing from a nearby source, your money won’t fund international shipping and will be invested back into your local community.

  • Natural stone pavers: Because natural stone pavers are made from organically-produced stone, there’s no new manufacturing required, limiting the environmental impact. In addition, water easily flows and drains through the gaps in the pavers.

Chip seal layers gravel and a liquid bitumen one at a time on-site, while asphalt directly pours a pre-combined mixture. Asphalt must be sealed, but it will last up to four times as long as chip seal driveways. Aesthetically, chip seal has a natural, rustic look compared to the traditional asphalt slab.

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.
