"John was fantastic. Was able to come out on short notice and take care of the wallpaper removal. He was very fairly priced, knowledgable and provided me feedback and tips for painting the room once the wallpaper was removed."

"We first hired Chris of CQ Painting after reading good reviews on Angie's List in 2012. We hired Chris for exterior painting which included replacing and painting wooden trim around the windows and doors. Due to the good work initially, I have hired Chris multiple times since, including the skim-coating/painting of two rooms (once to cover up splatter paint decorating and the other to fix another company’s wall paper removal gone bad in our powder room). Most recently, we hired Chris for drywall repair/painting associated with a kitchen/family room refresh; during this project, I learned learned Chris’ company was expanding into other areas and I subsequently hired him for an interior door project and to install several lighting fixtures in our dining room and foyer. Everything turned out beautifully. In all the jobs for which he was hired, Chris and his crew arrived on time, have always been respectful, pay attention to detail, and are great at cleaning up afterward. Due to the above, Chris has become our “go to” guy whenever we have a painting-related project! I would definitely recommend Chris and CQ painting!"

"We were interested in painting some rooms of an apartment which we were renting. We contacted Jason on very short notice. He was able to complete the job on our tight schedule. He was very helpful in picking shades of the colors that we wanted. He and his team did a great job."

"Joe was great. Had to patch up numerous openings in our kitchen ceiling from light removal and replacement during a kitchen renovation. If you haven't done drywall patching in the past, unfortunately, it is not a one day process. Joe came out numerous times to make sure the job was done right and did not rush. Even after paying Joe our final payment and thinking the job was complete we noticed a couple of spots that needed some attention once in the natural daylight the next day. Joe was right out to take care of and made perfect. Does very good work, answers phone calls, and is attentive to details. Would rehire."

"This isn't the first time that we have hired Ken and each time he has been prompt, diligent and takes care to clean up after himself at the end of each day. He's just a really nice guy on top of being a good painter."

Wallpaper Removal questions, answered by experts

Think hard before deciding to German schmear your home’s exterior brickwork. If you do not like the look, you are pretty much stuck with it, as it is impossible to remove this finish the way you can remove paint. You risk damaging the underlying brick if you have to chisel and acid-wash it away. It will also take a very long time, and remnants of the mortar wash will always remain.

The average cost to install or hang wallpaper is around $575 per room or project, with typical prices ranging from $200 to $1,500. Costs can be higher for custom or luxury products. Since project size varies, it's often helpful to estimate labor costs per square foot, which generally fall between $1 and $7, with an average of $4 per square foot. The total cost depends on several factors, including the quality and type of wallpaper, the size and type of the room, and whether old wallpaper must be removed first. Opting for less expensive materials like peel-and-stick wallpaper or choosing to do the installation yourself can lower the overall cost. For the most accurate estimate, it is best to have a professional inspect the space and provide a quote.

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

No, you don’t always have to remove old wallpaper before applying a new layer. However, you should pull off the existing wallpaper if it’s cracked, peeling, or in poor condition. We’d also recommend against putting wallpaper over textured or dark-colored wallpaper because the old layer may be visible through the new one. In addition, if you try to hang new wallpaper over vinyl-coated wallpaper, the adhesive might not stick properly.

Many peel-and-stick wallpapers aren’t moisture-resistant, so if you install them in high-humidity rooms, mold can grow behind the wallpaper. It’s best to reserve peel-and-stick wallpaper for bedrooms, living rooms, and other rooms with lower humidity levels. Not only does this minimize the risk of mold growth, but it also keeps the wallpaper from bubbling or peeling.
