"Excellent, timely, and knowledgeale service. I had them come to clean the air ducts, but they were able to comprehensively answer some other questions I had about my HVAC situation. I am going to use them from now on for my HVAC needs. Recommend!"

"HVAC machine outside wasn’t working. Ricardo ? was so good at explaining & suggesting his expert ideas. There was a mouse & nest inside the machine & wires were severed. He removed the critter & nest & repaired the wires. All is working again. What a great guy he is!!"

He found and fixed the problem by 4 pm. He explained what he had replaced. He was extremely nice. I would recommend Perfect Temp to anyone who needed HVAC work."

"From start to finish, the HVAC installation went smoothly. The crew arrived on time, protected our floors, and explained each step of the process in plain language. They completed the job quickly, cleaned up thoroughly, and walked us through how to use and maintain the new system. The new unit runs quietly, cools/heats the house evenly, and has already made a big difference in our comfort and energy bills. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone needing a new HVAC system."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The standard HVAC warranty is around five years. Still, many brands offer an extension to 10 years if you register the product within a specific timeframe, typically 60 to 90 days post-purchase or HVAC installation. Over the past decade, warranty periods have substantially increased, shifting from 3-5 years in the 90s to the now-prevalent 10+ year warranties. Both warranty types cover parts failing due to manufacturer defects, incurring no additional costs. Some manufacturers provide extended warranties surpassing the usual 15- to 20-year window, though these often involve extra fees.

The average life span of an HVAC system is 15 to 20 years. Even if your old air conditioner is still functional, it isn't as energy-efficient as a newer system (especially one with an Energy Star designation). Older HVAC systems aren't as efficient, and the 10-year mark is when you should start making full system replacement plans. Twenty years in, that plan should be well underway rather than waiting for the unit to die.

There are a few ways to determine if a vent is open or closed. You can inspect the vent and examine the position of the fins. If there are spaces between them, the vent is open. If the fins are flat and touching, the vent is closed. You can also stand under the vent when the system is running to see if you feel air flowing through it.

You can buy a new AC capacitor through most big-box home improvement stores, from an HVAC contractor, or from the manufacturer. Use the model number of your air conditioning unit to make sure you purchase the right part for your unit. Also, keep in mind that the cost of this type of part can vary significantly depending on who you purchase it from, so shop around to get the best price.

Yes, high-efficiency models reduce environmental impact with lower energy use.
