"Kals did an amazing job. Alex was very accommodating and considerate with fitting our schedule and budget. He and his team are highly skilled and proficient. My floors were a disaster prior to Kals flooring, now they are beautiful."

"The job was done to its perfection. My cherry wood flooring is more difficult than normal to refinish but Mike and his buddy made it look brand new and the whole project was communicated clearly and Mike also provide followup calls to make sure things are good after the project is done. Definitely recommend for any kind of flooring projects!"

"Our experience with My Floor Hero was good. They arrived on time; moved four rooms of furniture; worked the day through; professional work ethic; put furniture back in place and finished up at 6 pm. We’re very pleased."

"The entire process went pretty well. Bob (sales) called ahead of the appointed time in order to arrive early (yea!), and the installation team (JJ and two younger guys) arrived a bit earlier than expected (yea!). They quickly moved my big furniture and removed the old carpeting and pad. About seven hours later I had brand new carpeting to walk on! After I thoroughly vacuumed the new carpeting I didn't find any real problems except for one visible "seam peak" in the main floor area (and I believe this may become less visible over time)."

"I have solid wood floors throughout the house(except the kitchen)that didn't match due to different installation dates. I had them install new hardwood in kitchen and then all the floors were sanded, stained the same color and sealed. The floors are beautiful BUT not everything was roses. 1. If you decide to have someone undertake this work make sure you oversee every aspect of the job. I don't care how nice Vince is. He has NOTHING to do with the outcome of the job. He hires third party vendors to do the work and you better be on sight to make sure job is going to your satisfaction. If I had not stopped by to inspect the days work I would not have caught the totally unacceptable difference in stain color from one large open space to another. The people doing the work tried to convince me the sealer scheduled to go on the next day would even out the color which I immediately knew was not true because of my experience with this type of work. I told them the issue would be resolved by adding another coat of stain to the lighter area which in fact it did. The reason they tried to pull the old sealer will do the trick was because it would set them back a day.. Had I not caught them when I did they would have been resanding the entire area to bare wood in order to get the stain to match properly and that would have set them back more than a day. 2. When your floors are done they will look beautiful. Mine did and they still do. The ONLY reason I gave these folks such high marks was for this very reason. HOWEVER, make sure you inspect under appliances, especially your refrigerator. In my case, during the sealant phase, they slopped a large amount around the wheels and it puddled and dried into a large hard mass which I didn't catch until some time later. I called Vince and to his credit he sent his "professionals" out to fix it. I was not able to inspect it before they left but when I did there was absolutely NO difference. I have pictures to prove it. I was so fed up I spent 3 hours sanding, restaining and sealing their mess. One other very important thing to watch out for is your baseboards. They did no physical damage but I have white baseboards throughout the house which I freshly painted before they started job. I figured might as well do it now. If I get paint on the floor it won't make any difference. It will just get sanded off. Howevet, I hadn't taken into consideration the possibility of someone being so inept at their job they were able to get stain all over my freshly painted baseboards. I have pictures.. With the right staining pad that should be impossible. The stain was probably applied with a balled up piece of cloth. I should have made them hire painters to come and fix this but by now I just wanted them out of my house. I have read all these great reviews about how nice Vince is and indeed that's true. However, for someone who runs what appears to be a successful nusiness he is very disorganized. I was given very little explanation of what to expect. Many questions came up along the way, most which could have been avoided if he had material answering the most basic questions. At one point I asked him why after 7 years in business he hadn't produced any type of written material explaining what his customers should expect and answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. Again, the one and ONLY reason I gave Vince the scores I did was because of the way my floors turned out. Most of the scoring questions don't ask about the items I'm writing about. How about a question like attention to detail? That one would have earned a one."

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

If you have a concrete subfloor, you must secure the carpet padding with adhesive or glue. However, if you have a wooden subfloor, use staples instead. Removing a glued-down carpet can be difficult and time-consuming, so it’s best to avoid glue when possible.

Many services include the removal and disposal of old carpet. Confirm with your provider.

Carpet glue is very sticky, but it's not permanent. The glue usually lasts as long as a typical carpet installation, which is five to 15 years. For the best results, you should always use the right type of carpet glue for the area you're using it in. There are carpet glues for high-traffic areas, which are more high-quality and durable than others.

You can tell a carpet is good quality if it’s made of a soft, durable material and has a good face weight and density. When comparing two similar carpets, the higher the face weight, the more durable the carpet tends to be. The same goes for carpet density. A higher density of two similar carpets often indicates better quality. The ideal carpet face weight and density values depend on the carpet material and type.

Carpet padding costs an average of $510 to purchase and install in a 225-square-foot room. The price can range from as low as $170 to as much as $850, depending on the brand, the thickness, and the labor cost. Although carpet padding will increase the overall cost of carpet installation, it also helps the carpet hold up longer, reduces noise in the room, and provides more insulation.
