"Bryan was prompt. I told him that we had never had our Chimney swept in the 20 years we lived here. He examined our chimney and took a photo -- he showed me that the chimney was very clean -- no cleaning was necessary !! I appreciated that ! We have already hired Pratt to rebuild our chimney cap next spring."

"They did a nice job. I signed up for their fall chimney sweep coupon. They sent out two guys who were knowledgeable and polite. They inspected the chimney, cleaned it out and sealed the cap in under an hour."

"Called them to clean and inspect fireplace chimney. Frankie went up on the roof while his assistant cleaned from inside. Frankie took digital photo of crown to show me where it needed repair. Also noticed that the existing cap did not fit tightly and we have had raccoons on our roof. When he inspected the firebox he noticed a hole just above the damper, which he recommended repair because of fire hazard. The whole job took about 45 minutes."

"They did a great job. They solved all the problems I had with the chimney and it’s been working perfectly ever since. They also fixed a problem on the roof around the chimney; they replaced the wood around the chimney with a material that would never rot, so they fixed it even better than it was before. It took them a couple of days to do the work. They took care of all the cleanup as well. We've been real happy with them."

"We just moved into our new house a week ago.  A couple of nights in we had our first rain and dinner was interrupted by my most hated DRIP, DRIP, DRIP noise.  I saw water dripping down from behind the chimney mantle.  I called High Tops on Wednesday morning and Dan called me back around lunch time to discuss what I needed done.  I explained the water leak and he said he could be out Friday (Thursday was Thanksgiving) to take a look.  He arrived a little behind schedule but called to let me know.  He went up on the roof and quickly identified that the water was coming from a hole in the chimney flashing most likely caused by a shovel or pitchfork (clearing ice?).  He gave me my options with no sales pressure--either caulk/seal the hole for ~$200 or replace the flashing for ~$400.  I chose the flashing replacement option and he said he might be able to get to it today.  I said that would be awesome and he made it happen.  He ran out to get materials and was back within 30 minutes.

To fix the leak, Dan took up the shingles in the area, replaced the flashing (taking care to nail far away from where water would accumulate), sealed using a high grade sealant and replaced the shingles.  I asked to go up on the roof so he could show me what he did and he gladly welcomed me to do so.  He explained in detail what he had done and made some observations about the existing flashing being thin which probably led to the puncture.  He then took the time to give me a tour of my roof which was not at all something he had to do but was just one of many ways he exceeded my expectations.  He pointed out some plumbing vent seals that were dry rotting and offered that he would go back to the truck and get some more sealant to seal them for me.  Dan then spent about 15 more minutes going around sealing my vents.  This was not something that was included in his quote but he didn't charge me to do it.  It was a very smart move though because that one tube of sealant and his 15 minutes of time far exceeded my expectations and made me a customer for life.   If someone mentions roofing, you can bet I will be recommending High Tops and Dan."

"After having several other companies out to inspect the three fireplaces in our newly purchased 44 year old home, Our new neighbor, who is a realtor, suggested that we call Valor Chimney. We made an appointment for Valor Chimney to come out and give us an estimate. The appointment was several weeks out, but well worth it. David was professional and knowledgeable. He explained the work that needed to be done and provided an equally detailed proposal. A few weeks later, David arrived on-time and did the work without any surprises. Valor Chimney, like the other companies that came out were C.S.I.A certified, but Valor's price was better and David is the owner, so I think the quality and integrity is better because of this fact."

Chimney Caps questions, answered by experts

A higher CFM will make the price of your range hood more expensive. It can be challenging to speculate how much the CFM rating affects price, but ductless range hoods—that don’t need as high of a CFM as ducted range hoods—are less expensive than their alternative. On average, ductless hoods cost between $100 and $300, while ducted hoods can cost as much as $1,000.

By positioning ductwork for optimal airflow and reducing potential leaks.

Typically 1-2 hours, factoring in ductwork and electrical connections.

No, range hoods do not necessarily have to be vented outside. Ductless or non-vented range hoods are available, which are common in condos or small kitchens where connecting to external ductwork isn't feasible. These hoods operate by taking in air, filtering it through charcoal filters to help eliminate smoke and odors, and then recirculating the cleaned air back into the kitchen. However, while these recirculating hoods are more versatile, venting to the outside is still the preferred and more effective method for completely removing smoke, odors, and gases from the room.

Smooth galvanized metal ducting is best and safest for venting a hood range. It’s best to avoid flexible and corrugated types of ducting, as these options don’t provide ample airflow and may not meet local code. For specific advice on which type of duct might be best for your kitchen, reach out to a range hood installation professional.
