Great! Dan was quick to respond, provide on-site inspection and quote. Was the least expensive. Completed promptly and quickly! I would definitely use him again when roof needs replacement.

Dan was super professional from beginning to end. He came out and gave me an estimate, scheduled the work and completed the job, all within the timeframe he gave me. He found extra damage, which he repaired and my roof looks great. Also gave me some advice on how to avoid future problems. Great experience!

Our experience was not pleasant. We were in contact with the roofer and explained our situation and how we were on an extremely important time line. He agreed to get us the quote in the time frame we discussed and that did not end up happening. We had to message and call him multiple times after he came out to the property. He even got upset when we reminded him and was rude to my husband. I was not satisfied at all with this experience. I would have went with someone else if I knew how long it would take.

Dan was great! At first there was no visible sign of damage but he went further and found the problem which was the rubber flashing around the plumbing vent. He showed me the broken part, replaced it on the spot and was very reasonable! I definitely recommend him!

Small repair job, but he responded the same day I inquired from Angie, showed up that same day to estimate the work, and repaired it 2 days later. Can't ask for more than that. Price was reasonable, in line with other quote (from non-Angie contractor).

I first met Dan about 7 years ago when he repaired a leaky roof in my old house.  He thoroughly inspected the roof and attic, and found the 1 loose tile that was damaged when a severe windstorm came through.  He was responsive and reasonable on price.

At my new house, he has assisted me 3 times this year.

1.  I had a satellite dish removed from my roof, and he made other repairs from inspecting the roof.

2.  I had a leak in my kitchen, due to a freak north wind storm, and he sealed the balcony above.

3.  Dan animal proofed my roof.

Every time, Dan is responsive, communicates well, and is very fair on price.  He is a true pro and I highly recommend.

I found Dan Finnegan, the owner of High Tops Roofing and Construction to be very friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive.  Dan arrived at my home on time and did a thorough evaluation of my roof.  He was able to prepare an estimate after his evaluation.  I found his estimate to be very competitive and complete.  I would not hesitate contacting Dan for an estimate on future projects.

The roof is wonderful and has made it through two really bad winters. The gutter guards are dented. The gutter guards weren't as great as the roof job that was completed. It took about a day and half to complete the job. They left the area clean when they were finished.

Dan, was the first of 2 roofers I called to get back to me and come out. I thought I had ice damage to my roof. He never got on the roof and then told me that I would need a new roof. We went to his truck and he gave me a couple of brochures to look at. I gave him my e-mail address and asked when he would get a quote to me. He said next day. I never heard from him again. Since he has come out, I have had another roofer come out, and I do not have ice damage and do not need a new roof just some repair work.
Response from High Tops Roofing

"I didn't do any work for this customer, i only went out for a free estimate. I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A BAD REVIEW FOR SOMEONE I DID WORK FOR... please read all reviews to confirm. He is angry that i didn't get a proposal to him but it was a misunderstanding. i told him that "depending on how much money the insurance gives you may want to do some minimal repair or you could replace the roof" i told him he should use the drywall and painting money toward the roof so we can try to prevent the real issue from happening again. the repairs that i mentioned ranged from minimal (heated cable) to expensive (replacing the roof). the replacing the roof option was quoted because the repairs (high velocity ridge vent, 2 layers of premium grade ice shield, Solar power vent, baffles at eve vents, and aluminum valleys would have came close to equaling the cost of replacement. I never told him he needs to do this work. I just gave him the options and explained them to him. I am a very experienced and knowledgeable professional. There is no reason to walk the roof. it was a newer roof, he already mentioned this was an ice dam issue, and that it didn't leak when it rains. I gave him honest advice for FREE this review is very unfair. Angies list members. if you give an F for not receiving an estimate on time then what grade do you give for a contractor that messed up a job?"

Dan came to the house to provide an estimate. While other roofers who came to provide an estimate didnt engage in a conversation, Dan listened to the various concerns and provided a detailed quote. During the job I contacted Dan via mobile phone and asked several questions and regarding the type of shinlge to be used and discussed various styles. He was quite responsive and gave me answers I needed. He made adjustments to the quote when I asked for ridge vent instead of the metal vents that needed replcement.  I hesitate to give him a B for responsiveness but it is due to a couple of instances where communication could have been better. I was surprised when Home Depot delivered the materials on a Saturday morning which I was not informed about  ahead of time and one or two delayed response but this is the busy roofing season.  A-minus  would be more appropriate I think for responsiveness
I liked the job description provided in the quote which gave details of the work to be done. He accepted my requirement to work with the village and got the work permit on the day of the job. Before the work day Dan provided  the foreman's name and mobile number. On the work day the crew worked diligently and as far as I can tell paid attention to details and got the work done before sunset. I was on the roof toward the end and watched them install the ridge vent. Greg the foreman was my communication with the workers but Greg must be supervising more than one job as he was in and out. He did answer phone calls and address all my questions and conerns during the day. At the end of the day I noticed the hoses to the bathroom vents were to long but once I mentioned it to the workers and Greg, they took care of it right away. I was not sure about removing the TV antenna and went back and forth on my decision but they listened and were patient. In the end though it was pointed out the antenna posts were too rusted to reinstall. Dan provided advise on what type of caulking to use when I am ready to install another antenna in the Spring.
After the job they cleaned up around the house very nicely. Picked up all the lose materials and nails, if any, with a magentic pick up. Last time I had the roof done by another company  I picked several reels of nails and this was definitely a nice job done by caring people. My back patio was much cleaner when they left than when they arrived!
I would strongly  recommend this company to others

I called the listed number and got a "mailbox full" message.  A short while later Dan called me from a different number to say that he noticed he missed my call.  I described the small job I had for him and he gave me an estimate of cost that seemed very reasonable.  He said he could try to fit my job in with other jobs he was currently working.  He said he'd call back to advise when he could fit me into his schedule.  About a week later I called him again and reminded him of my request.  I asked for a call back.  When I didn't hear back from him by more than a day later, I decided this was not someone I could trust to communicate with me.  I called his phone again and got no answer but left a message identifying myself and telling him to thanks but no thanks.

"The bottom line is we never met this client and the few bad reviews we receive on Angies List are from people we have never did any work for. We get busy because we are in demand and due to rain and other factors we have to delay/cancel appointments on occasion. I priced it generously to do the work at a time when we were already in the area. We had a couple of rain delays and we called him when we were ready to complete the work. he told me no thanks and gave me a D review. Lesson learned, thanks."

"I usually provide estimates on the upon meeting the client and assessing the work needed. The estimate is customized and printed out in the clients driveway. sometimes I have problems with software/hardware and it is not possible to provide an estimate on the spot. This was one of those occasions. the estimate was supposed to be mailed out to the customer but apparently it never made it off my desk. Next year I will have a back up computer and printer to avoid this problem. sorry Member"

We just moved into our new house a week ago.  A couple of nights in we had our first rain and dinner was interrupted by my most hated DRIP, DRIP, DRIP noise.  I saw water dripping down from behind the chimney mantle.  I called High Tops on Wednesday morning and Dan called me back around lunch time to discuss what I needed done.  I explained the water leak and he said he could be out Friday (Thursday was Thanksgiving) to take a look.  He arrived a little behind schedule but called to let me know.  He went up on the roof and quickly identified that the water was coming from a hole in the chimney flashing most likely caused by a shovel or pitchfork (clearing ice?).  He gave me my options with no sales pressure--either caulk/seal the hole for ~$200 or replace the flashing for ~$400.  I chose the flashing replacement option and he said he might be able to get to it today.  I said that would be awesome and he made it happen.  He ran out to get materials and was back within 30 minutes.

To fix the leak, Dan took up the shingles in the area, replaced the flashing (taking care to nail far away from where water would accumulate), sealed using a high grade sealant and replaced the shingles.  I asked to go up on the roof so he could show me what he did and he gladly welcomed me to do so.  He explained in detail what he had done and made some observations about the existing flashing being thin which probably led to the puncture.  He then took the time to give me a tour of my roof which was not at all something he had to do but was just one of many ways he exceeded my expectations.  He pointed out some plumbing vent seals that were dry rotting and offered that he would go back to the truck and get some more sealant to seal them for me.  Dan then spent about 15 more minutes going around sealing my vents.  This was not something that was included in his quote but he didn't charge me to do it.  It was a very smart move though because that one tube of sealant and his 15 minutes of time far exceeded my expectations and made me a customer for life.   If someone mentions roofing, you can bet I will be recommending High Tops and Dan.

This was VERY DISSAPPOINTING.  I called this company and asked them come by and take a look at my roof.  They told me they would stop by in the next couple of days.  1 week later, I had not heard anything from them.  I called them again, they had no clue.  They did not have my information.  Once again I gave them my information and they said they would stop by.  Another week passed, and nothing!
Response from High Tops Roofing

"I have never heard of this person. When a call comes into the office all of the clients information is sent directly to my computer. I searched for this client by name, street name, and phone but none of this info came up. Its likely this person may have mixed me up with another contractor. there are other companies that have a similar name like high top roofing, top side roofing, among others"

Don came to the house on the same day I contacted High Tops.  We talked about if it was time to re-roof the house.  We also discussed the nature of a "Natural disaster claim".  He did not take a hard sell approach.  He left me with an estimate for the job.  After discussing this with my better half we decided we will wait a little longer.  Our firsts call when we are ready to replace the roof will be to Don and High Tops
