I first met Dan about 7 years ago when he repaired a leaky roof in my old house. He thoroughly inspected the roof and attic, and found the 1 loose tile that was damaged when a severe windstorm came through. He was responsive and reasonable on price.
At my new house, he has assisted me 3 times this year.
1. I had a satellite dish removed from my roof, and he made other repairs from inspecting the roof.
2. I had a leak in my kitchen, due to a freak north wind storm, and he sealed the balcony above.
3. Dan animal proofed my roof.
Every time, Dan is responsive, communicates well, and is very fair on price. He is a true pro and I highly recommend.
He cut part of a selling let water go, and told me how to dry out attic.
I liked the job description provided in the quote which gave details of the work to be done. He accepted my requirement to work with the village and got the work permit on the day of the job. Before the work day Dan provided the foreman's name and mobile number. On the work day the crew worked diligently and as far as I can tell paid attention to details and got the work done before sunset. I was on the roof toward the end and watched them install the ridge vent. Greg the foreman was my communication with the workers but Greg must be supervising more than one job as he was in and out. He did answer phone calls and address all my questions and conerns during the day. At the end of the day I noticed the hoses to the bathroom vents were to long but once I mentioned it to the workers and Greg, they took care of it right away. I was not sure about removing the TV antenna and went back and forth on my decision but they listened and were patient. In the end though it was pointed out the antenna posts were too rusted to reinstall. Dan provided advise on what type of caulking to use when I am ready to install another antenna in the Spring.
After the job they cleaned up around the house very nicely. Picked up all the lose materials and nails, if any, with a magentic pick up. Last time I had the roof done by another company I picked several reels of nails and this was definitely a nice job done by caring people. My back patio was much cleaner when they left than when they arrived!
I would strongly recommend this company to others
To fix the leak, Dan took up the shingles in the area, replaced the flashing (taking care to nail far away from where water would accumulate), sealed using a high grade sealant and replaced the shingles. I asked to go up on the roof so he could show me what he did and he gladly welcomed me to do so. He explained in detail what he had done and made some observations about the existing flashing being thin which probably led to the puncture. He then took the time to give me a tour of my roof which was not at all something he had to do but was just one of many ways he exceeded my expectations. He pointed out some plumbing vent seals that were dry rotting and offered that he would go back to the truck and get some more sealant to seal them for me. Dan then spent about 15 more minutes going around sealing my vents. This was not something that was included in his quote but he didn't charge me to do it. It was a very smart move though because that one tube of sealant and his 15 minutes of time far exceeded my expectations and made me a customer for life. If someone mentions roofing, you can bet I will be recommending High Tops and Dan.
