"It was our third time using The Handy Veteran and it will not be the last. Kevin and his team are absolutely top notch! Our first job with Kevin was to replace and paint all of the wood and trim in our entire house, replace carpet with LVP flooring on a third of the floors in our 3000sqf home, refaced our fireplace, install a new front door, & paint the entire house. Second job was to repair and paint our large deck. This last job was to replace more floors, remodel our guest bathroom and hang multiple lights fixtures. It’s best to remove wallpaper rather than paint over it. You should only paint over wallpaper if removing it would damage the wall, the surface is relatively smooth, or there are minimal problem areas—such as slight peeling and lifted seams—that you can fix easily. Painting over wallpaper can save time, but it can create more problems if the wallpaper is in poor condition and you don’t properly prep the area for painting. Depending on the state of the wallpaper, color, and textures could show through, and moisture from the paint could loosen the adhesive, causing unsightly bubbling.

You can often fix an air bubble by cutting a tiny hole in the bubble with a very sharp knife, using a glue syringe to inject some adhesive behind the bubbled portion of paper, and then using a wallpaper smoothing tool to push the bubble back onto the wall's surface.

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it’s not always ideal. If the wallpaper is firmly adhered, has no bubbling or peeling, and isn’t textured, you can try to prime and paint over it. Use an oil-based primer to prevent the adhesive from bleeding through. However, if the paper is damaged or loose, removal is the better long-term solution.

You may end up with extra wallpaper once your project is finished. Hang on to that wallpaper, as you may need to use it to patch up areas that get damaged later on. If you have a lot of excess wallpaper, try getting creative with it. You can use it to line the inside of a cabinet or drawers, for example.
