"The chimney project went smoothly. The result of the initial work on the fireplace was less satisfying. Richard Olsen, the owner, agreed with me and had the work redone. He made sure that the end result was something that we both were happy with. I was impressed by his professionalism and the pride he took in the work done by his company. I will not hesitate to hire him again or to recommend him."

Customers say: True professional

"Franco’s Fireplaces was a wonderful find. I needed my paver patio repaired where it had sunken-in and had several thick roots growing through the pavers. I was having a difficult time finding a contractor. I finally reached out to Angi and got a prompt response from Franco’s Fireplaces Inc. Not only did he offer a reasonable quote, Franco was able to begin immediately. In less than two days, his team transformed my patio. I am truly impressed with their workmanship. Based on my experience, I can understand why they had so many great reviews for their fireplace work and now I can recommend Franco’s Fireplaces for paver/ flatwork, too. This was my second experience using a contractor through Angi, and both experiences have been awesome."

"Wonderful service from Jorge and George! I wanted a new firepit and it now looks fabulous! Jorge even did a little drywall repair for me -- I am most appreciative! Wonderful customer service -- they were on time always, they let me know the whole process, and did a great job! Yes, I will be recommending them to my friends who need any kind of fireplace work done!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average to install, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the professional you hire, the accessibility of your chimney, the cap's material and size, whether any repairs are needed, and if it requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. Copper caps are the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and then galvanized steel. Excluding labor, average material costs are around $100 for galvanized steel, $250 for stainless steel, and $600 for copper. You may also face additional costs, such as hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before the cap is installed.

Neglecting to clean your chimney can lead to serious safety hazards. A primary risk is the buildup of creosote, a highly flammable substance that can ignite and cause a dangerous chimney fire. This buildup can also create blockages in the flue, resulting in poor venting of smoke, soot, and toxic gases like carbon monoxide, which can then enter your home and create dangerously poor indoor air quality. Additionally, creosote is acidic and can damage the chimney's mortar and metal components over time, potentially allowing smoke to leak into your house. To prevent these issues, it is essential to schedule an annual chimney cleaning with a professional.

Chimneys should either be sealed or waterproofed, which is different from sealing off—closing at both ends—a chimney. Waterproofing and sealing are both crucial steps to take to prevent water damage and the chimney leaking inside the house. While waterproofing is more comprehensive, both help safeguard your chimney, extending its life span and preventing expensive repairs.

Professional chimney cleaning, also known as chimney sweeping, typically costs between $130 and $400, with a national average of about $260. The final price depends on several factors, including the size and accessibility of your chimney, the number of chimneys being cleaned, and the type of chimney you have. A standard cleaning involves a chimney sweep scraping creosote, dirt, and other debris from the entire flue. Many professionals also include an inspection with this service, but the cost of any necessary repairs is typically extra. Additional services, such as installing a fireplace damper, will also increase the total cost. It is recommended to schedule a cleaning and inspection annually, preferably before you begin using your fireplace for the season, and to get price quotes from at least three companies to find the best deal.

Most repairs take 2-6 hours, but extensive fixes or part replacements may require additional time.
