"I hired only one electric to fix or finish my solar system that I bought from another company and found out that it was a mess and it was all screwed up they put on the stuff that I did not buy it was a cheaper version of what I bought but only one electric came in and saw the problems I had to take everything apart that the other company did and give me the things that I purchased in the first place I feel they did a very good job and what they had to work with and replace and fix everything the other company had screwed up and I donâ t think I wouldâ ve ever got it up and running with the other company if it hadnâ t been for Only one electric"

"I recently had a couple feet of water in my basement due to heavy rains. The bottom part of the furnace (containing the blower motor and a circuit board) was under water for several hours with the electricity off. The furnace was cleaned and dried, although there was not much visible debris to begin with. I scheduled an inspection with Foster's to get things checked out. They were able to fit me in on the same day. The office personnel were polite and professional. The service tech arrived and looked at the furnace (which I had already taken the panel off of to clean). He shined his flashlight on it from several feet and asked how high the water was. He then said, "Well, then all of that [in the lower part of the furnace] is going to need replacing. I'm just going to bill this as a regular maintenance call and write up a quote for the blower and circuit board". $75 later, he gives me a quote for $998 to replace the components. I consider myself rather handy, and in my frustration, I inspected the unit in detail. The bearings and magnets on the blower motor and all electrical connections which were free from corrosion or visible shorting. I *cautiously* powered on the unit and it has been working like a charm since. While replacing everything is the safe bet, I would prefer a service tech at least bend over and put some effort into an inspection. I didn't need to spend $75 to have someone tell me what I already know after 45 seconds of "work"."

"This company is obviously nationwide and hires local contractors.  I trusted Agies List that all contractors are licensed, bonded and have background checks.  This person was a handyman and not qualified to wall mount, conceal wires, add electrical outlet.  He  spend five hours in my home, for a job that should have taken two hours and left the area in a disaster.  The TV was hung close to the ceiling, the wires were hanging down from the TV, and the receiver was sitting on top of a plaster box because the cord was too short.  He was obviously not qualified to install TV wall mounts.  I have photos.    As soon as he left, I called Best Buy Geek Squad.  They were able to come out the next day and mount the TV professionally.  I have used the geek squad in Virginia and they are highly qualified.  They charge more than this nationwide company but you get what you pay for.  I called Angies List the day after the disaster and said i did not want to rate this company but I wanted to talk to a manager. No one called me to apologize. I have cancelled my membership.  Do not use this company unless you can be assured that the local contractor is qualified and is licensed.  You should never let anyone into your home that has not had background checks.

Electrical questions, answered by experts

On average, it takes from four to eight hours to replace an outside electrical meter box, not including rewiring. It will take a few more hours if the project requires pros to do any rewiring work. Consult your local electrician about a time estimate for your specific project.

The National Electrical Codebook indicates that there should be at least 6 inches of wiring in the breaker box for connecting purposes. When in doubt, err on the side more, because you can always cut some wire off but you can never add it back on, and if you don’t have enough you may struggle to finish wiring your breaker box properly.

Running conduits through an exterior wall is an effective method for powering outdoor spaces. From gardens to sheds to garages and more, it can be important to have electricity outdoors. Using conduit, which safely covers wires outdoors, is an easy way to get power where homeowners need it.

There are various reasons why an electrical outlet can stop working. You might have to do some detective work to understand whether it’s a problem with the attached appliance, the outlet itself, or a faulty breaker. Sometimes, old age or loose wiring are to blame; other times, it can be as simple as an overloaded circuit tripping the system and cutting power. If you’re troubleshooting doesn’t solve the mystery or repairs, or replacements are required, it’s time to call in the pros.

Knowing if and when your circuit breaker is failing or faulty can prevent costly damage. If you notice any of the following signs, call a local electrician to help.

  • The breaker frequently trips

  • The breaker doesn't stay in the 'on' position or reset properly

  • You hear buzzing or humming noises coming from the breaker

  • There's discoloration around the breaker switch

  • There's a burning smell or visible signs of damage on the breaker
