"Paul did a great job. I had a more complicated water softener I purchased online that Paul had not installed before, but he installed it successfully along with a sediment filter. He took away my older softener and salt tank. Paul was friendly and quick to respond to my request for a quote. He completed the work in just a few hours, and charged me what he quoted me. I am please with the work and would recommend him others."

"Loose faucet base at kitchen sink. Tried to sell me on the idea that tightening from underneath wouldn?t last. It would probably come loose again. Might be cheap faucet or defective. I didn?t buy any of his theories. Totally not willing to pay for new ?better quality? faucet and installation for a gigantic price tag."

"After living in our home for over 20 years heavy rain coming off the roof had caused the terraced landscaping in front of the house to sink about a foot and the concrete terrace blocks were nowhere close to level. We had a landscape engineer look at it and he never got back to us. We had a concrete guy look at it and he never got back to us. Then we had Chris with Professional Contracting look at it. He said he believed he knew what to do, which was to build two parallel retaining walls. In addition the steps to our house had also sunk down nearly six inches. Chris proposed building new steps and a new sidewalk, as well as a front patio (where the bulk of the water was channeling off the roof) to direct the water away. He seemed confident and we felt like he knew what he was doing, so we hired him. He and his crew arrived when promised. Chris works very hard and implores his crew to do the same. As they were working we decided to add another small front patio and a large back patio and Chris and his crew adapted to this change without complaint or delay. If anything, the two retaining walls were overbuilt. When they were done Chris made sure the ground around the concrete work was properly sloped and they cleaned everything up. About five months later I noticed that the one retaining wall was moving, being pushed by the dirt it was supposed to be holding back. Chris came to look at it. Given that it was overbuilt, we were both very surprised that it would start to move. Chris took full responsibility. He and his crew came back and excavated the dirt from between the two walls and installed very heavy chains from the top of the one that was moving to the base of the other one, to prevent any more movement. Then they filled the dirt back in so that you could not tell they had been there again. Given our confidence in Chris at that point, while they were doing this repair we had them install another sidewalk. Chris did the repair work without any charge. Chris will tell you that he is not the cheapest, but that he will do the job right. We firmly believe that to be the case. The fact that he came and fixed the movement of the one retaining wall promptly, and at a significant investment of time by his crew, with NO charge to us, proves that he will do things right or he will fix it. It has now been two years since this work was done and everything is looking good. You can probably find someone to do concrete work for less but you will not find someone to do better quality concrete work and to guarantee the results."

"Our basement had 3 clay brick walls that were crumbling and one good wall that was rebuilt in the 1980's. We original went with a very well known local basement company that seemed professional. They came out to our house November of 2014 to give us an estimate. They said we needed to replace 2 walls and brace the 3rd. We were quoted about $36,000 for the work. We scheduled the work for April because the work can't be completed in the winter. When they came back late Feb 2015 to start the job,  I was told that they no longer brace clay brick because it doesn't really work. Instead they would need to replace the 3rd wall and that would be an additional $15,000 o the original quote. Of course, I was not happy about this sudden change in both their recommendation and increased costs. I lost confidence in that company and called about 10 other basement places for quotes. Most of the companies were not able to do the work because it was too big of a job. Better Basements' quote was around $30,000 to replace 3 foundation walls and install a sump pump. The owners and crew were very professional. The work was completed correctly and on-time. There was one surprise during demolition when we discovered a bump out on the first floor was just floating. They had to add more footings to support this so the price went up by a couple thousand. I thought this was fair. The new basement is dry and stable.

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

If you’re wondering if your home even needs a sump pump, consider whether you’ve struggled with flooding issues in the past. If your house is in a flood-prone area, your yard has poor drainage, or you’ve dealt with any other water problems, then it’s likely well worth it to replace your old sump pump with a new one.

The difference between an ejector pump and a sump pump lies in their purpose and design—an ejector pump functions to remove liquid gray water and soft solid sewage waste from your home. If you have a laundry room or bathroom in your basement, an ejector pump for your sewage tank prevents sewage from backing up in your washing machine or bathroom’s drains.

A sump pump is designed to remove excess groundwater that may enter your home, either due to flooding or periods of heavy rain.

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

One common reason a sump pump stops working is improper sizing. Different locations need different sizes and power ratings of sump pumps depending on the typical amount of water the pump needs to manage. If your sump pump is too small for the quantity of water, it can overwork and either burn out or reduce the life of the unit. If the pump is too big, it can overwork and burn out early.
