"Widened and leveled my driveway, added new gravel and compacted it and added a drainage grate to my garage. Very professional and knowledgeable. Was able to accommodate my schedule. Finished the work in about 8 hours. Very happy with the result."

"We used Billy and his team to repair our yard after a sewer line was replaced. He was very knowledgeable in the process of what was needed to restore the property to its prior state. The work was done quickly and we have had no problems with anything he has done. Highly reccommend!"

"I had a new electrical service installed and needed the old weatherhead removed and flashing installed around the new conduit and the place where the old conduit was located. When I first contacted Tim, it was right after the major rain storm we had in July and they were booked solid. Tim asked me to be patient and was able to get the job done in mid November. I was determined to wait for Des Moines Area Roofing to do the job as they had installed the roof a few years ago and I was very impressed with the professionalism and job quality. The removal of the conduit and flashing installation was done very quickly. I would definitely recommend Des Moines Area Roofing in the future."

"My experience with EJS Roofing has been A+/the best  from start to finish.
Ed was on time , well prepared,  informed , and professional for every meeting. He always got back to me with in 24 hours when I called/ asked for some information.
The EJS crew that did the tear off and roofing  was outstanding. DJ , the foreman,  explained why each time he had to put on the four new 4by 8 plyboard pieces  to replace a rotting one or one that had pulled way from the nails and was sagging.  He and the crew  were also very concerned about protecting our new landscaping /flowers.  No damage was done  as a result of their extra effort.  All the crew members worked very hard and very carefully, taking the time necessary to do an excellent job.  I was there observing for the entire two days .  I also appreciated the fact  that the crew  respected one another and got along well.  ...no put downs or use of expletive/fowl language....they talked like professionals.

An example of their careful work  ....The workers had to replace two damaged skylights.  I had an expensive sunlight tinting film put on the two new skylights. The EJS workers  were extra careful not to touch the fragile film  and protected the units all during the installation....  the skylights look perfect!!

The EJS workers picked up everything before they left..... including the nails that had fallen.

When I paid for the project there were no surprises...I feel like I got more than I expected  with the extra efforts and professionalism  throughout the project.

After the project , ED helped me to understand how to register with the Atlas Shingle company to validate  the 20 year non prorated warrantee....and he explained  the EJS Roofing would back up their workmanship for 15 years  with this 4A rated shingle. His confidence in his workers craftsmanship was impressive.

I had my own 3rd party roof inspector  come to walk the roof with ED at the end of the project.  My roofing inspector said,"  You've got a great roof." I could not be more pleased with my experience before , during and after  the project with EJS roofing.
I would not hesitate to recommend EJS Roofing to a family member or friend.  In my opinion, EJS roofing could make a strong case for being the best roofer in the Cedar Rapids area."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Home insurance prices depend on where you live and the individual insurance company's policies. Some insurers charge a flat fee for fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, which is often a few hundred dollars per year. Other insurers base this fee on a percentage of your annual premium. You may want to check your current or prospective policy before beginning this project.

You should not attempt to disable a smoke alarm unless you’ve already activated a replacement unit. To stop a hardwired smoke alarm from beeping, reset the device or silence the alarm. If you’re removing a hardwired alarm, shut off the power, turn the unit counterclockwise to remove it from the ceiling, and disconnect the wiring.

A smoke alarm that beeps periodically, often every 30 to 60 seconds, usually indicates a low battery. The first step is to replace the battery. If this doesn't solve the problem, try resetting the alarm. However, beeping can also signal other issues, such as dust buildup in the sensors or the unit reaching the end of its life. Different beep patterns can mean different things; for example, multiple beeps might indicate an issue with a combination carbon monoxide detector, while a continuous, loud alarm means smoke has been detected. If a new battery doesn't stop the beeping, it's best to consult your alarm's manual, call a professional, or replace the unit.

Yes, windows being painted shut is a fire hazard. Because windows painted shut may have locks that stick or cannot be opened easily in an emergency, this becomes an immediate fire hazard that should be dealt with.

There aren’t many problems with fire doors except that they slow down or cut off ventilation at the higher rating levels. For this reason, work with a professional to ensure you have adequate ventilation throughout your house or workspace. The sealing around a fire door is meant to allow for a specific amount of ventilation and will need regular inspections to ensure adequate airflow.
