"We came home to our basement with couple of inches of water. The plumber was able to come that same afternoon and recommended that we replace the sump pump. During the repair, he discussed the need for maintenance on this sump pump. We enjoyed working with this plumber and will hire this company again."

"Excellent, Mr Billy Henry arrived ahead of schedule. He quickly identified the ruptured waterline hose and turned the leak off at the source (washing machine) then he restored the water to the main house from the water cutoff located in the crawl space. He was very helpful and professional."

"Good company. Good experience from the time I began obtaining an estimate, until the work was completed June 2016. Prices were fair and reasonable for above-builder-grade product on 2 (Carrier Performance Series) HVAC unit replacements. They were very accommodating on meeting the timeline promised. My ONLY issue was that a bit more care could have been exercised on the install... but it was hotter than Hades, making conditions brutal! I am choosing Ragsdale to continue to service our units. I give them a A-"

"Starting with my salesman Stan, who was extremely knowledgeable and patient through an easy installation and then my plumbing Overview by Blake who was extremely thorough it has been great working with this company. Blake even noticed that my recent water heater installation by another company was not up to code so I had to call them to come back. He even went so far as to email me information that I could share with the other company to make sure they change the errors. Whether you need AC or plumbing this is a great company."

"Three visits were required (last one by owner) to resolve problem. First and second technicians arrived without equipment to properly diagnose the problem. A new unit was ultimately installed only to find out it demonstrated the exact same problem the first unit demonstrated, which they concluded the problem was NOT the unit itself, rather the Atlanta Gaslight meter had malfunctioned, supplying an inadequate supply of gas, causing the unit to shut down. So, presumably, the original unit was not at fault but this determination was made only AFTER the new unit was purchased and installed. The company did issue a credit from the first visit, applied to the purchase price of the second unit and provided a 5 year warranty on the new unit instead of the usual one year warranty. They also included a one time annual service call at no charge."

"I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Anthony Jr was very professional and courteous, he was understanding of my kids running around, and he answered all the questions I had. I let him fix the sink while I was busy dealing with my children. He was also right on time for the appointment, and was very prompt fixing the issue. After he was done, he explained again everything he did, collected my Service Fee, and explained that there were no additional costs because it was covered by my home warranty company. In the future, I will definitely use A-total Plumbing! Thank you for your great service!

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to drain wastewater and solid waste into the municipal sewer system or a septic tank. For fixtures below this level, like those in a basement, gravity cannot move the waste upward. The ejector pump provides the force needed to pump the sewage up to the main line. Without one, wastewater from below-ground fixtures would back up, potentially causing a sewage overflow and flooding. If all of your plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity is sufficient and an ejector pump is not needed.

There are a couple of similar alternatives you may consider for a sewage ejector pump, including a grinder pump or a submersible sump pump. Submersible sump pumps protect your home from flooding from outside water, though, rather than handling wastewater from inside. A grinder pump macerates, or shreds, solid waste before pumping it onward to the sewer line.

If you have a self-cleaning washing machine but you’re still seeing lint, your water pump filter might be clogged. To clean it, you should unscrew the drain hose, then remove the water pump filter. From there, you can inspect it and clean it with warm water before replacing it. Check to be sure your washing machine is functioning by running a short cycle.

There are several indicators that your washing machine’s drain pump is bad, including incomplete cycles, water not draining, lack of spinning, a foul odor when the machine is running, and a loud grinding or buzzing noise when the pump is trying to move water down the drain.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.
