"I recently had an electrical inspection done by TE Certified Electrical, Plumbing, Heating & Cooling, and I couldn’t be more impressed. From the moment the technician arrived, the experience was professional, thorough, and reassuring. They took the time to explain everything they found in a way that was easy to understand, and I felt confident I was in good hands. What stood out most was their attention to detail—they didn’t just check the basics, they inspected the entire system to ensure my home was safe and up to code. No high-pressure sales, just honest advice and helpful recommendations. I’ll absolutely be using TE Certified again and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for top-tier electrical service."

"Lightning Bug Electric did a wonderful job. We had Josh & Jake come out to install a ceiling fan & a new switch for it in our two story living room. They were extremely nice, funny & professional. They taught us a lot about the home’s existing wiring, & recommendations to upgrade our house that were extremely helpful. The ceiling fan came out great, & the switch as well! I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get electrical work done the right way. Incredible!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

GFCI outlets generally need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, though some may fail in as little as 5 years, depending on usage. It is important to test them regularly. Signs that a GFCI outlet is failing or has reached the end of its lifespan include: no power coming from the outlet, the outlet not resetting when the 'reset' button is pressed, or the outlet not tripping when the 'test' button is pressed. If you notice any of these issues, it is time to replace the outlet, and it's best to contact an electrician to do so.

It's possible to get power from an outlet for a light switch. However, you must install additional wiring to get current from the outlet to the switch and from the switch to the load it will control. Also, you must ensure that the outlet's electrical circuit can accommodate the additional demand.

For most applications, you won’t need a neutral for 240V. There are certain codes and regulations that differ between areas so just because you technically may not need one in order for the device to function properly, it may still be a local requirement. Professionals in your area know the requirements, which is just another reason to hire one instead of taking on a project that is frankly not very DIY-friendly.

A low-voltage landscape lighting system using 15 to 20 LED lights for six hours a night will average about $5 to $10 a month in electricity costs. This is considered affordable lighting for many homeowners. Most modern landscape lights use LED bulbs, but some older styles may use halogen or incandescent bulbs, which can cost up to five times more than LEDs in electrical costs.

It is safe to run a generator continuously, but you must follow safety protocols to ensure personal and home safety. Read the manufacturer’s instructions for specific recommendations, but the general recommendation is to turn generators off overnight or when you’re away from the house. Overworked generators can pose a fire hazard and if your generator is not in a well-ventilated area, running it continuously could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
