"Harris Electric did an AMAZING job. He was very thorough and patient with me explaining my job. I've already referred a friend of mine needing electrical work done around their home to Harris Electric, as I feel they will not be disappointed. Thanks for your service, it was great doing business with you!!!"

"TE Certified Electrical was very responsive in setting up an onsite visit. Besides providing a cost estimate, which included details of the work effort needed, the technicians also provided recommendations on additional work that they recognized would be required to get my electrical system up to code. Due to the cost estimate being too high versus the benefit, I opted to not have the electrical work done at this time."

"David Hardeman and his assistant Nate Toussaint did an excellent job installing dedicated 220 circuit for my new Kia Sportage plugin. Everything went smoothly and they came up with a more efficient route to take for snaking new line. David was great in allowing his assistant to have input. - something seldom seen! David also put in a whole house surge protector which necessitated an addition to my breaker box. They cleaned up after themselves as well!! I will definitely use them for some additional jobs I thought of the minute they drove away!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

After electrical work in Decatur, test all new circuits, confirm GFCI and AFCI protection, and update your panel directory for clarity. Schedule any required city inspections and promptly address feedback. Monitor for unusual heat or odors during the first week. Keep records of permits and inspection certificates, and set reminders for annual professional inspections to maintain electrical safety and reliability.

Helpful?

In Decatur, it’s smart to keep a non-contact voltage tester, digital multimeter, and insulated pliers for safe troubleshooting. Stock weatherproof wire connectors, dielectric grease, and silicone sealant to protect outdoor connections from humidity. For safety, use Class 0 rubber gloves and a fiberglass ladder. Having spare circuit breakers, labeled wire markers, and replacement outlet covers supports quick repairs and ongoing electrical safety.

Helpful?

Decatur homes with features like knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, plaster walls, or undersized electrical panels often require extra planning for upgrades. Slab foundations can limit access for new circuits, while crawl spaces may increase moisture risks. Signs such as frequent breaker trips, two-prong outlets, or warm switch plates suggest your home’s structure could complicate electrical repairs or panel upgrades.

Helpful?

For electrical projects in Decatur, choose copper THHN or THWN-2 wire for reliable conductivity and moisture resistance, especially in older or historic homes. Use NM-B cable for interior wiring and UF-B cable for outdoor or underground runs, which helps withstand Georgia’s humid climate. Install weather-resistant, tamper-resistant, and GFCI outlets where required, and select outdoor-rated panels to protect against frequent storms.

Helpful?

In Decatur, build a seasonal inspection routine by checking outdoor outlets and fixtures for storm or freeze damage each spring, and inspecting air conditioning wiring before summer heat. In fall, test heating circuits and holiday lighting for safety. During winter, monitor crawl spaces for moisture. Throughout the year, test GFCI outlets monthly and watch for flickering lights or warm outlets to catch electrical issues early.
