"Benjamin was prompt and efficiently. He installed a new 30amp breaker and outlet in my garage exactly as I had envisioned. I did not comparison-shop, but his fee was quite reasonable. I would call him again if I need electrical work."

"Lightning Bug Electric was very helpful with all our post home-inspection needs, from adding new electrical sockets, fixing lighting switches, installing exterior/interior plugs for new TVs and and removing very old floor boxes. Knowledgable, friendly and went above and beyond to ensure our new house was all ready. Scott and Griffin were the specialists who made us feel comfortable and confident in choosing Lightning Bug Electric. Will absolutely use them again in future."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Great experience with BriteBox Electrical Services. Cory Henderson was professional, respectful, and easy to communicate with from start to finish. I showed him where I wanted the outlet installed, and he handled everything with precision. He took the time to protect the work area, safely shut down the circuit, and completed a clean, high-quality installation. The workmanship was excellent. I’ll definitely be requesting Cory again for future projects. Highly recommend!"

"Two very large limbs broke off a tree in our front yard recently, and fell on the power lines. After the limbs were removed and our power was restored, we had to hire an electrician to reattach the lines to the house. I found Bright Idea Electric on Angi. This company responded immediately to my service request. Jamaal Wilson, the owner, came out the next day. He did the job, and also installed an overhead light fixture in our kitchen. He inspected our breaker box as well. We were very satisfied with the work, and the price was right! We highly recommend Bright Idea Electric."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A home electrical inspection usually takes one to two hours. Full home inspections fall on the longer side, while code compliance inspections that focus on a single repair or installation may only take a few minutes. Optional add-ons like infrared inspections can add time, but these aren’t usually included in your standard inspection.

Unfortunately, a partial power outage without a tripped breaker often means you have a major wiring issue or that the breaker itself is going bad. When the power is out in one room but the breaker is not tripped, you need to call an electrician as soon as possible to identify the cause of the problem and repair it.

The copper wire used in knob and tube wiring systems can last up to 100 years. However, it’s considered a dangerous and outdated wiring method because the cloth, fabric, or rubber insulation sheathing can become brittle and fall apart. Knob and tube wiring systems should be inspected if you’re considering buying a home with this type of wiring, or if you have problems with frequently tripping breakers, a sign that you may need to replace them.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

No, not all thermostats require a C-wire. Older manual and programmable thermostats typically do not need one. While many smart thermostats do require a C-wire to function correctly, some models can operate without one, often at the expense of certain features. A C-wire provides a constant source of power, which enables the thermostat to stay connected to Wi-Fi and keep its display screen lit on-demand. If you are upgrading from an older thermostat to a smart model that requires a C-wire, you may need to install one first for it to work as intended.
