I’ve had lawn pro after lawn pro come out and all tell me the same thing, “whoever installed your sod didn’t do a good job, the sod is of very poor quality”. I spent over $10k for my landscape job with this company and wanted to have the best lawn in the neighborhood. Instead I have constant problems and have spend lots of $$$ trying to fix THEIR MISTAKES. Stay away from C&L Landscaping."

Matt's knowledge of sprinklers is extensive, which is obvious when he goes to problem solving. We had a place where our sprinklers weren't hitting, so Matt and Rick ran a line under the sidewalk in order to add the correct sprinkler in the most effective spot. About an hour later the problem was fixed! Thanks again guys. And his prices are very reasonable, can't emphasize that enough. I highly recommend Matt and his crew. Don’t pick up dirt after aerating. Even though it's tempting because soil cores are incredibly unsightly, these cores and the dirt they leave behind are ecologically important. This is what keeps your grass looking beautiful and growing healthily. The soil cores need two to three weeks to decompose, but you can swat them with a rake if their natural shape bothers you.

Yes, you can DIY either core or liquid aeration for your lawn. You can use a manual core aerator or rent an automatic one. Just be sure to mark off yard obstacles like sprinkler heads before you start. Liquid aeration is easier—just hook up a garden pump sprayer, although some are able to be attached to a hose. While liquid aeration is not as laborious as core aeration, you will need to focus on an even distribution of the solution across your entire lawn for it to be effective. Of course, if you are unsure about doing both, call a pro.

Each type of grass has its own specific needs regarding the timing of aeration, but in general, late summer to early fall is the best time to do so. For most lawns, that means sometime between September and November, though certain types of grass, like St. Augustine Grass, do better with aerations in late spring and early summer.

It’s best to fix lawn depressions during late spring. You want to wait until after your last frost date and when the yard is not too wet. This also allows ample time for new grass growth once you reseed.

Strange as it may seem, poking holes in your lawn can do a great deal to help the grass grow back stronger, thicker, and happier. By allowing light, water, and nutrients to penetrate the soil, the grass can root down deeper and get more of what it needs to thrive. All of which is to say, if you care about the appearance of your lawn, yes, lawn aeration is usually worth the money—especially since it’s not that expensive.
