"Leak was found and plugged in light fixture (broken conduit, most likely). Arnold was very professional and thorough, kept checking all possible problems even after he found the leak, and let us know the rest of our pool plumbing was in good shape. Gave us advice to keep an eye on possible problems. Charge was a little higher because we have a combination inground spa with our pool, meaning more plumbing to check. Very happy with results."

"A pool enclosure at my rental property needed a complete rescreening and Philip Hamm’s price was competitive but his timeline to start and complete the job was the selling point. Most companies where over a month out or more, or didn’t call back for weeks. Philip was very responsive and easy to work with since I don’t live in the area. I wasn’t there to attest to the actual process or professionalism but when I asked to meet before paying to discuss some gaps I noticed upon completion and inspection, Philip worked with me on my timeframe so I could get to the property and explained in detail the issues with rescreening old enclosure frames. Might be something to disclose with customers up front so they know what to expect. All in all, a good experience and I wouldn’t hesitate to call on Jacksonville Screen again."

"Good overall company, but they lack communication... I would give them a "D" for that. installers were sloppy as well, nails all over the driveway and in pool as well as loose shingle pcs all over the place. Installers lacked supervision big time. Now overall did they do a good job....yes I believe so, it looks great and their 15 yr warranty is best in the industry. But very sloppy and again lacked supervision... I had to makes tons of phone calls to get answers. Home office needs to monitor the job better & keep homeowner in the loop on everything that is going on & not rely on one field supervisor as he is probably spread too thin. They also dented my garage door which I need to address with them."

"We replaced all of the tile in our pool. The tile work looks beautiful and was completed efficiently and professionally. The pandemic supply chain issues caused a delay in the availability of the pool surfacing material, but Motta pool traveled all the way to Miami to obtain the material as soon as it could be obtained which was very much appreciated. Overall we were very pleased with the work and would highly recommend"

"

I've built 4 houses and three pools and this is by far the best construction experience I have ever had.  Why?  First, dealing with RD Gray is a pleasure.  He was all about understanding what we wanted in a pool--how we planned to use it and how we wanted it to integrate with our house and landscape.  He listened carefully to the description of what we desired and then came back to us promptly with a first-cut design, which was about 90% on the mark.  Closing the 10% gap was a collaboration, which he welcomed--no ego issues.  As we watched the pool take shape during construction, we wanted to make a few minor changes.  These were accommodated without any fuss or change orders.

Second, we got tremendous value for our money--a very high quality execution of a custom design for a fair price.  RD uses the best Pentair equipment end-to-end and all finishes are top quality.  Now that the pool is complete and in operation we appreciate RD's practice of using oversized equipment, again end-to-end, which means it will be under less stress and last longer.  The equipment plant is beautifully laid out and engineered; looks like a surgeon did it.  Then there are the things you don't see but that really matter.  For example, Island Pools uses 8-12" of compression concrete throughout versus the more usual 6".  This was especially important to us because our pool ranges from 4 to nearly 8 feet in depth, thus more pressure.  I'll just sum it up by saying that every aspect of the construction was first-rate--materials and craftsmanship.

Third, the commercial arrangement was as well done as the rest.  There was no front loading of billings.  In fact, we were always ahead of the work in progress, so we felt comfortable that if anything major had gone wrong we'd be safe.  But nothing ever did go wrong.  Everything went right.

Finally, the disruption to our property and lives was minimal.  His crew were mindful of our landscaping and sprinkler system and did all that they could to minimize damage.

We can't recommend Island Pools, owner RD Gray and his crew too highly.

Install Above Ground Pools questions, answered by experts

Yes, you will need to shock your pool with high levels of chlorine or bromine when you first fill it to kill off bacteria and pathogens. You’ll need to wait for the chlorine concentration to come back down to a safe level before swimming. After that, you can test and maintain the chlorine and other levels as normal. The only exception to this is if you get pool water delivered by a professional. In that case, the water might come pretreated, so you might not need to shock it.

No, shock and chlorine are not the same thing, though they are related and both are used for pool maintenance. Regular chlorine, often in the form of tablets, is a sanitizer used for routine, day-to-day maintenance to keep a steady chlorine level. Pool shock, however, is a highly concentrated dose of chlorine used periodically for a more intense cleaning. It rapidly raises chlorine levels to fix issues like cloudy water or algae growth and also eliminates chloramines, which are byproducts of regular chlorination. Because their purposes and concentrations differ, they are not interchangeable, and proper pool care typically requires using both.

The best paver for your pool deck depends on your budget, style, and how much maintenance you’re willing to invest. Granite is one of the best low-cost pavers for pool decks. It’s very slip-resistant and durable, too, making it a top pick. Travertine is a high-quality material that resists freeze-thaw cycles, looks stunning, and won’t get hot in the summer. The only downside to travertine is that it costs more than granite.

It can take 24 to 48 hours to fill a 15,000-gallon pool with a garden hose. A hose will pump out anywhere from 4 to 12 gallons per minute, with the average hose resting somewhere between 8 to 9 gallons per minute. If you want to speed up the process, a water delivery service can fill your pool in a few hours or less.

You do not need to excavate or lay a foundation for a stock tank pool. You should, however, level the area where you plan to put the stock tank. Also, stock tanks full of water and people can get heavy, so do not place them on a deck or other raised structure that could collapse from the weight.
