"Jorge and his company was superb! He repaired a section of wall both inside and out, so stucco and drywall. All was done sooner than expected, such hard workers and very skilled. Matched existing paint perfectly, looks like there was never any water damage! Clean up was wonderful. Can't say enough about their honesty and dependability. Had to leave them unsupervised in my home for most of the days (I work), never a worry. Recommend them at the highest of levels! Will use him again."

"Julio was a great handyman. He was a very personable guy and even offered to give advice free of charge before agreeing to do the work I needed. He helped me fix some closet doors that I struggled to get hung up and went above and beyond to do it right."

"Justin had to replace subflooring in my manufactured home took out all the vinyl, reinstallef it and had to also replace subflooring in my bedroom and the bathroom, he did an excellent job. He also remodeled my bathroom, as you can see from the picture. He's kind, considerate and wants to make sure the job is done perfectly to the customer satisfaction. He painted the wall's. Put in the new mirrors, ligjt fixtured, the sinks and cabinets and new mirror doors. I am very pleased with the work he did, and will bring him back to remodel the kitchen. I would highly recommend Justin."

"From the time Nick came out to give us an estimate on what repairs needed to be done, and Hunter and David arrived to complete the repairs we were treated professionally and respectfully. The work was done as contracted for and Hunter and David went above and beyond our total satisfaction. We will definitely refer them to all our friends and neighbors."

Customers say: Quick response

"L.A.S Landscaping completely transformed my yard by adding a palm tree, colorful plants, and a stone wall. Not knowing anything about plants, Luis explained and guided me without rushing. The crew was in and out very quickly. The yard is beautiful, his price was the best and I couldn't be any happier."

"Contacted TrueBlue on Saturday due to help with a shower knob replacement where the screw seemed to be a bit stripped - probably from previous owner. I couldn't unscrew it with any of my phillips-head screwdriver so tried to enlist some help. TrueBlue offered to have a tech come out and give an estimate the next day, Sunday. Despite being a weekend and just a few days after the hurricane, they showed up early and actually fixed my issue then and there in less than 10 minutes. Didn't charge anything although I was willing to pay. Giving 5 stars due to great communication, friendly and considerate technician, and prompt service. Would do business again, especially since the first "pro" who called me 1 minute after I listed the project did a no-show after we set a mutually agreeable time for an appointment on the same day."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, to build a retaining wall, a permit is required. Similarly, any repairs or modifications to an existing retaining wall require permits. If the planned wall measures higher than 4 feet, most municipalities require designs and permits come through a licensed engineer. In some locations, if the wall is shorter than 4 feet, a permit may not be required. For the requirements in your area, contact your local government.

The lifespan of a retaining wall varies based on its material, installation quality, maintenance, and local climate, with an average range of 20 to 100 years. Retaining walls made from durable materials like concrete, stone, and brick generally last a minimum of 50 years. Concrete walls typically last between 50 and 100 years, while brick can last for over a century in ideal conditions. Timber retaining walls can last from 20 to 40 years, depending on the wood quality, and pressure-treated wood walls average around 30 years. It is important to note that a retaining wall can fail prematurely if it was poorly constructed, for example, with inefficient footings or without necessary rebar reinforcements.

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

Generally, a railroad tie retaining wall consisting of a single line of ties should be between 3 and 4 feet tall—and the height often tops out at around 6 feet. You can go taller, but you may need additional footings and reinforcements, including a second layer of railroad ties to support the added weight of the soil it’s holding back.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.
