"This was the best experience I have ever had with anything be doing work on my home. He said he would be here at 8:00 am and he was here at 8:00am. He pressure washed my entire house, pulled all the tiny vine pieces out of my soffits, filled all the cracks and caulked everything, sealed my entire home, painted my gutters, soffits, whole house and trim. Removed and replaced all of my exterior lighting and house numbers as well as my down spouts... I have 3 dogs and he was so careful to make sure they were safe and didn’t get out. He finished earlier Than I expected. He truly cares about you and your expectations and my house looks like a brand new home... I could go on and on with praise. I’m will recommended him to everyone I know! Ve"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

Preparation includes cleaning the fence, sanding any rough areas, applying a primer if necessary, and ensuring dry weather for application.

We don’t recommend it. A wired brush or a brush with metal bristles damages concrete and asphalt during the stain removal process. For the best results, stick to nylon stiff enough to do the job but gentle enough to keep from scratching the driveway. For extra caution, skip the brush entirely and use towels.

Yes, staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan, typically by five to 10 years. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it can still fall victim to moisture, sun exposure, and rot over time. Applying a treatment creates a protective shield that helps prevent splintering, fading, and decay, preserving the wood's strength and appearance. A combination stain and sealer often provides the best protection, as it soaks into the wood grain rather than just sitting on top. This offers superior defense against UV damage and rot and lasts longer than a sealer alone. To maintain the wood's natural look, consider using a near-translucent stain. You should plan to reapply the stain or sealer every two to three years.

The best time to stain a fence is when the weather is dry and temperatures are between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Late spring, early summer, and fall are typically the best seasons for this project. You should avoid staining during very hot weather, like in the middle of summer, or when it is raining. Heat and moisture can cause the stain to dry unevenly. Likewise, if it's too cold, such as in winter or early spring, the stain may not be able to dry fully. Before you start, check the forecast to ensure there will be no rain and low humidity for at least a few days.
