"Sunbird Properties was the best contractor I had come out and look at the job. They answered all my questions, were excellent with communication, and showed up when they said they would. The work they performed was top notch as well. I would highly recommend them for tree removal or maintenance."

"JB and his team did a great job installing a new irrigation system and laying sod. They were able to schedule the work quickly and completed it in a timely manner. They were helpful in working through any concerns I had throughout the project. Everything turned out great! Would gladly use AAP in the future for landscaping needs."

"Excellent job with tree trimming. I highly recommend for this. I also had 2 roots ground down as the pavers were being lifted. For this, my only concern was that much more of the patio pavers were removed than I expected. I now have to hire an expert for the patio repair. Crew was great though. My trees look fantastic."

"I always like to put something on here when someone does a great job. I learned a valuable lesson when I hired a company to remove two palm tree. They did the job but when it came to grinding up the stumps not so good. The next day I went out and they did a halfway job. They would not come back so I hired STUMPED UP and Chris did a fantastic job. Not only did he grind up the stumps he level everything up but where I was going to put a new tree he took the grinder and made me a hold. I would highly recommend STUMPED UP to do any stump grinding you have done. "

"I hired Cody after I realized the previous vendor did not do a good job on the grind. When Cody arrived I explained where the trees used to stand and he immediately got to work. He took the time needed to grind down all the roots and he didn't leave until I was happy. He is truly "Top Notch""

"Blake and his crew did an outstanding job removing trees that had been blown down by Hurricane Helene. Service was performed in a day and a half for a large stand of trees and a huge oak. They left the area clean and debris free. I would highly recommend Southern Concepts Landscaping to anyone that needs lawn care, tree service or any type of landscaping."

"I was extremely pleased with the service provided. We had an immense tree to remove from our front yard. Mike responded to our request immediately and showed up to assess the tree and set up a date for removal . He and the crew showed up on time both days it took to completely remove the tree. They were excellent workers and respectful of our property. They cleaned up all the remains of the tree in our yard and the neighbor’s yard. There was not one trace of debris when they left. I would recommend Professional Services to anyone who want a stress free experience."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends on where you live—but in most areas, leaves begin falling in September and continue falling until January or February. Warmer regions, such as Southern states, may see leaves fall a bit later in the calendar year. It also depends on the type of trees in your yard and their maturity.

For trimming trees, your best tool is a pair of pruning shears or loppers. Both options work best for branches that are under 3 inches in diameter. Trimming trees with a larger diameter may require a robust tool like a small chainsaw or a handsaw, so take into account your tree’s diameter when deciding between tools.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.

According to scientists at Penn State University, spotted lanternflies do not typically kill the trees and plants they feed on, but they can cause branches and segments to die off. However, they have been found to kill cultivated grapes, which can have devastating consequences for vineyard owners and regions that heavily rely on vineyards to create jobs and generate revenue. They have also killed the Ailanthu altissima, known as the tree of heaven, though this is classified as a noxious and invasive weed tree.

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.
