"I goofed by only looking at the 4.5 star review score on Google (which is a 3.8 now). Turns out that, as I write this, they only have 1 star on the Better Business Bureau page and a D rating, 1.6 stars on Yelp, and only 2 stars here on Angi. To save you some time, I’ve included a few screenshots of others’ reviews below. I’ll throw in an abbreviated version of my story, too. It’s so absurd that I’ve had to chop it down by a thousand words to not exceed Google’s character limit. I got a quote from Robert/QS for re-sodding the front and side of the lawn, which died during the drought last spring. It was $1,430 for 1,300 square feet. Once done, I found the quality of much of the sod itself to be unacceptable. Most of it was thin and patchy, and a bunch was completely dried out and appeared to be completely dead. I also found the installation work to be unacceptable. The edges of many sod pieces were overlapping, sometimes by 3-4 inches, leaving some edges covered up and others not in contact with the ground. Numerous other pieces had large gaps, some up to 3 inches, between them. The pieces appeared to have been thrown down in a hurry and not moved around and fit together. In fact, the crew had apparently been in such a hurry that they actually threw pieces down on top of some of the white flags I used to mark the irrigation sprinkler heads and covered them up. There was also a shallowly-buried internet cable marked up with orange flags, which they apparently ripped out of the ground. It wasn’t cut - it was gone - along with the internet. Robert denied that the cable had been hit (wrong!) and also said he would get everything “tightened up” and taken care of. However, after waiting a week and hearing nothing from him, nothing was ever tightened up. So, I called the company and spoke with John, who immediately came off as a dismissive jerk. Regardless, John said he’d go look at the lawn himself and make sure everything got taken care of. He never went, though, and I didn’t hear back from him at all for another 9 days. After nothing was done for over a week and half, I got tired of waiting to hear back from them/for them to fix it. So, I bought several bags of topsoil, filled in all of the larger gaps with a hand spade, and fixed all of the visible overlaps. That took 2.5 hours of my time - and a lot of work. So, there were black stripes of topsoil all over the place where I’d filled things in. When John FINALLY got back to me, almost 3 weeks after the install, he told me that he'd been to the house and that everything looked fine. He didn’t mention anything about the numerous black stripes of topsoil, though. So, I started asking questions about what he saw/didn’t see and then he admitted that he hadn’t gone by and that he’d only looked at some pictures that Robert took a week earlier. He said he “misspoke” about going himself. Yeah, right. John then tried some kind of weird reverse-guilt thing, saying I was expecting perfection and that’s my problem. He said the sod business is a tough business and a bunch of other stuff that made no difference whatsoever. The fact is, they put down a bunch of low-quality sod and did a terrible job on the install. But, John just denied that they’d done poor work and said the lawn would “grow in” even though he’d admittedly never gone by to see it. I was very unhappy with his attitude and protested. After some arguing, he eventually offered to reduce the bill from $1430 to $1200. I said make it $1000 and I’d send a check, then he threatened to put a lien on my property if I didn’t pay $1,200. He said, “It’s easy and I’ve done it a hundred times.” So, per his own words, he’s had “a hundred” customers that didn’t want to pay. Great guy. Great company… FYI: I saved every text and over 100 before and after time-stamped photos and videos of their poor-quality sod and installation work – just in case anyone wants to dispute the facts in this review."

FAQs for lawn irrigation projects in Tampa, FL

While watering your lawn by hand might save you money upfront, installing and using a lawn irrigation system does save you money over time. You are less likely to overwater your lawn with a professional irrigation system, which will cause a reduction in water usage. These systems use the right amount of water without waste. In addition, watering your lawn the correct amount will also help prevent different fungi from growing, saving you money in fungi removal costs.

Lawn irrigation is the process of getting water to your lawn, grass and all, for it to grow. There are five main types of lawn irrigation methods:

  • Manual irrigation puts you in charge of the flow of water. Using a sprinkler head on your hose is best to evenly distribute the water across your entire lawn. This doesn’t take much time but requires you to be physically outside holding the hose.

  • Above-ground sprinklers attach to your hose and rotate or oscillate around your lawn. Since these are above-ground, they’ll need to be moved when it’s time to mow, and depending on the size of your property, you might need to move it around your yard for full coverage.

  • In-ground sprinklers are flush with the ground when not in use but pop up above the ground level when it's time to water the lawn. Piping for these sprinklers is all found underground, and there are different types of sprinkler heads for different uses and lawn sizes.

  • Drip irrigation involves drip lines that are more efficient than sprinklers for more extensive lawns. This involves a lot of digging since they are installed underground, but it makes it easy for you to mow.

  • Rainwater collection and irrigation uses nature’s precipitation to water your lawn. This option might not be available in every area since semi-reliable rainfall is needed, though the barrels for this system can range from 15 gallons to 10,000 gallons or more.

Even though having a lawn irrigation system to water your lawn is efficient, you do not want to run it daily. It’s best to run your system two to three times a week. The length of time to run your system varies on factors like wind, temperature, and the variety of your grass, but 10 to 20 minutes each time is generally preferred. If you water too frequently, you’ll drown your grass and plants.

The cost of a lawn sprinkler system is $2,550 for the average homeowner. However, this price can range from $350 to $5,000 or more, depending on the type of sprinkler system you install, the size of your yard, and the type of sprinkler heads you choose. For example, rotating or oscillating sprinkler heads are more expensive than stationary ones, making the cost for one sprinkler head $2.50 to $30 each. Likewise, a yard that is 1/4 of an acre in size averages a total average price of $2,460; however, a one-acre yard averages a cost of $9,840.

The total time it takes to install a lawn irrigation system is roughly one to two days. This includes digging trenches for any necessary underground piping, placing the piping, wiring, sprinkler heads, and valves, and connecting your sprinkler system to your water supply. If you have a lawn larger than one acre, or if there are any municipality regulations that extend the project, you can expect the timeline to be closer to two days.
