"The entire experience from the needs assement meeting to the moment Ray and all involved were leaving was exceptional! Everyone worked together and I was amazed by how well the entire job went. Everyone respected each other, my property, my neighbor's property and worked well with neighbors down the street when coming and going. Was Tree Pros the cheapest? No. Were they the most expensive? No. Were they the best? Absolutely! I couldn't have made a better selection and highly recommended them, the crane company and the climber for your tree removal needs! We feel very fortunate to have found an exceptional tree service and would have no question about using them again. Their attention to details and customer service was most refreshing. Thanks very much to all for a truly pleasant experience!!"

"Excellent job with tree trimming. I highly recommend for this. I also had 2 roots ground down as the pavers were being lifted. For this, my only concern was that much more of the patio pavers were removed than I expected. I now have to hire an expert for the patio repair. Crew was great though. My trees look fantastic."

"Highly recommend James for an tree services. He and his partner removed two trees on our property with ease. They were finished in a few hours and left the property clean. They will not be the lowest quote you will receive but given the work, the pricing is fair and they will leave you satisfied."

"Within two days of giving me an estimate, Mr. Cooper and his team removed three dead 100 foot tall pine trees that were in a difficult to access location, specifically a wooded area in the front of my home. One tree was close to and threatening the power lines. The other two were treating lamp posts along my driveway. Once the trees were in pieces on the ground, they cut them up, and loaded them into a trailer to be hauled away. Additionally, they did an exceptional job of raking and picking up the small debris. I highly recommend Elite Land Maintenance, LLC. If I have anymore tree problems, I will call them in a heartbeat."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

If you’re planning on keeping the tree, unless the roots are invasive, there’s no need to remove them, as doing so can cause damage to the tree. If the tree has been cut down and the stump and roots are left, grinding and removing the stump can cause root decay for some species. For other species, the stump and roots will need to be removed to prevent pests, disease, and possible tree regrowth.

A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.

Whether tree roots will continue to grow after a tree has been cut down depends on the species. Some tree roots will eventually die because they can no longer get nutrients through photosynthesis. However, other species that reproduce through root sprouts can continue to grow and produce new sprouts for seven years or more. For example, the roots of elms, ficus, and willows tend to regrow aggressively, while the roots of pines, oaks, and maples will typically die. To determine if a root system is still active, look for new sprouts on the old trunk, stump, or any exposed roots.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.

It is possible to cut down a tree on your property yourself, but it is generally not recommended unless specific conditions are met. You should only consider this project if the tree is small (e.g., under 4-5 inches in diameter and short enough that you don't need a ladder to reach the branches), and you are experienced in handling a chainsaw. The tree must also be located far from any power lines, fences, homes, or other structures. Even for small trees, the work can be dangerous, and it's always advisable to have a spotter to ensure the tree falls correctly and no branches fall on you.

For any tree that is large, requires a ladder to access, or is near electrical lines or structures, you should always hire a professional. Attempting to remove a large tree yourself is extremely dangerous, poses a risk of serious injury, and could result in significant damage to your property.

Before any tree removal, it's also important to check your local and state regulations to ensure the tree is not historic or otherwise protected by your city.
