Septic Systems The Big Question: "How often should I get my septic tank pumped?" The Florida Department of Environmental Protection suggests pumping your tank at least every 3 years to help ensure it continues to work properly. If you have an alternative system with electrical/mechanical components, you should have service more frequently. Over time your septic system becomes its own eco system. Containing living microorganisms that digest and treat household waste. Pouring any foreign substances down the drain can kill these organisms, causing harm to the septic system as a whole. No matter which sink or drain you use, avoid chemical and oils.

"It didn't happen they said they would have to push me off a day because of weather don't know why weather was sunny. Spring Hill septic pumped me out same day one hour after Jimmy's postponed me."

"Before I did this review I called this company multiple times to try to resolve my issue. Never did anyone ever call me back. I had worked with Nathan K. during the repipe due to some issue with how they performed the repipe. He corrected my issue and I was happy with the finished look. At the same time they were repiping my home the HVAC unit went out 10/6/2024. I asked if they would give a quote to replace this unit ($10,145.00) I approved to replace it. This is where the problems have been going forward with HVAC system. Whom ever installed the my system was not experienced or just had poor workmanship (per second HVAC company opinion). First issue was in December 2024 I got a power bill for my vacant home that was still being repaired from my slab leak for almost $400.00. I called Her and His about this. Nathan K. Called me and said they were no longer in the HVAC service since my install (This is not my problem its HER and His). He hired another company to come out and correct the installation mistake (apparently emergency heat would never cut off once the heat pump shut off). He never told me what they did to correct it. I asked him the help me with the $400.00 power bill since it was their fault. He said he would but never did anything about it. Going forward to September 2025. I have been try to sell or lease my home for 9 months (so no one is living in my home) with no luck. Finally I have a lease on it. The clients move in and start using HVAC system. 4 days later they call and said there is a water leaking up in my garage and back bed room floors. You can imagine how I feel at this point I got a sick feeling in my stomach (My I remind you I spent over $23,000 dollars with Her and His Plumbing to repair my home). We figured the leak was coming from HVAC system (This system is only 11 months old). So I called another HVAC company to come out. They found out the system was under charged with freon and the system was freezing up causing excessive condensation flow which flowed over the drip pan. Also they found ducting is not properly sealed at the supply plenum with no mastic tape, the platform was not leveled (this caused my floors to get wet) and NO PERMIT WAS PULLED FOR THE INSTALL OF HVAC TO LAKE COUNTY. We did do a permit for plumbing. What I want is accountability from this company to pay and fix my unit correctly? I have been patiently waiting for someone from this company to call but guess they got their money and they going to screw me. I am beyond ****** right now. The right thing to do is fix my issues ASAP. FYI, I am not going to let this go!!!!!!!!"

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

With regular servicing and general upkeep, both a well pump and pressure tank can last for years. The average lifespan of a well pump is around eight to 15 years. A well pressure tank can last from seven to 10 years. How long a well pump and pressure tank lasts also depends on a variety of factors such as type, size, material, and brand.

Ideally, you should conduct a mechanical inspection and a bacterial or well water inspection yearly. While you might be able to push it off to every other year, it’s best to have peace of mind, especially when it comes to something that you use so frequently.

If you experience repeated gastrointestinal illness in the household, it's important to test the well water more regularly for quality and cleanliness to check for bacteria.

Most professionals recommend that a deep well pump shouldn’t run more than 10 hours consecutively before cycling off. Overworking the well pump beyond the recommended amount can prematurely wear out your pump and burn out the motor, which means replacing it more often than you otherwise should need to. Your well pump should also come with the manufacturer’s use and maintenance recommendations that are specific to the model.

Wells usually replenish at about 5 gallons per minute, but a few variables can influence how quickly they refill. A deep well will take more time to replenish than a shallow well, and any leaks or other damage can slow down the replenishment rate. Other factors, such as a faulty well pump, a clogged well screen, and local geology, can also affect the replenishment rate.

When testing the pressure of your well tank, the psi should be two below the cut-on pressure. For example, if your tank is set to 40/60, then your pressure should be at 38 psi.
