On to the event...
I own a couple dozen rental properties. One of my tenants called to tell me that the water heater in the house was not working. I called Kellie Plumbing who said that they could send a technician out to the house.
The technician called me after looking at the water heater. He told me that the heating element had gone bad. He gave me an option to replace the element or to replace the entire water heater. I asked him how the rest of the water heater looked and he replied that it looked fine.
IMPORTANT: I asked the technician how long it would take to repair the water heater. He replied by telling me that "we" don't carry parts for water heaters that we don't sell and that he would have to see if he could even get the parts (today) and would have to contact his office to see when he could get back out to the house. I told him to check into those things and to CALL ME BACK.
After speaking with the technician, I returned a call from one of my handyman about another property. During the call, he told me that his job for the day cancelled. I asked him if he had time to look at the water heater. He said "yes" and went straight over to the rental.
My handyman agreed with the diagnosis of the problem offered by the technician from Kellie Plumbing. He went to a hardware store right around the corner, returned and then fixed the water heater.
A few hours later, the Kellie Plumbing technician called me requesting payment for fixing the water heater. I asked what he was talking about and he told me that he had received permission to go buy the parts and return to fix the water heater. I told him that I had already had it fixed by someone else! He replied and told me that was "too bad" and that he had done the work and expected to be paid.
I told the Kellie technician that the last thing I told him was to call me back after speaking with his office and that I never authorized him to do the work. The technician told me that he "figured" I would want the work done so he took it upon himself to get the water heater fixed.
I asked him if he happened to notice all of the new parts in the water heater. The technician replied that he didn't notice them but wasn't paying attention since he had looked at the parts that morning.
I told the technician that he hadn't been told to do the work and that he was to have checked on prices, parts and when he could be re-scheduled to come back out to the house and to call me with that information. None of this seemed to register with the technician and he kept saying that he did the work and needed to be paid.
I told the technician that I wanted Ron to call me and that I would work it out with him.
Ron never called me. No one from Kellie Plumbing ever called me to discuss this matter.
Just last week, this same water heater began leaking all over the floor and into the kitchen of the house. I called Kellie Plumbing only because they were the last people to work on the water heater. The scheduling lady refused to send anyone out because we refused to pay the bill for the heating element repair. I told her what happened and that her technician had removed and thrown away brand new parts. She told me that she had my side of the story and her technician's side of the story and that she was believing him and would not be sending anyone out to the house.
I informed her that I wanted to speak with Ron about the matter and she said that she would pass along the message.
Ron still hasn't called me nor has anyone from Kellie Plumbing.
I don't know if the leak in the water heater was caused by the Kellie Plumbing technician or if it was just a strange coincidence. What I do know is that the technician told me that the water heater looked fine (other than the heating element).
I am thoroughly disappointed in Ron, Kellie Plumbing and the staff of Kellie / Johnson Heating & Cooling.
PRICE NOTE: The handyman fixed the water heater's heating element for less than HALF of what Kellie's technician had quoted.

"Thank you for your post. We at Kellie Plumbing, hope you and your family have a wonderful & joyous holiday season."
"Thank you for the post, we really appreciate it when people recognize the core belief we try to instill in our employees. I will personally be sure Casey and the rest our service personnel know about your post. So many times object lessons are negative, it is good to have these examples of good service."
"We reviewed our records and believe we found the call this review is referring to. The work address and cost are different and the work date was over a year before. The signed service ticket clearly shows a discounted charge for the work of $75. A check was received at the time of service for $35 and we billed out the remaining balance at that time. Upon reviewing our payables file we discovered this balance was still open and requested the balance be paid. The quoted cost is clearly a misunderstanding as we could never deliver such a service for the price of $35. We only requested payment for the work performed and should have been more proactive when the invoice balance went unpaid for so long. We apologize for any confusion."
"The call history at this home shows three trips over the last eight years to clear the outside drain of tree roots. The last occurring was in February of 2012. We provided a quote to replace the piping in 2009 which the owner declined. Annual maintenance with a root killing compound would be the next best solution but replacing the piping will cure the root issue."
