"We choose ASP impact windows and sliding doors over other vendors because their product (SIW) had thicker aluminum and glass than other less expensive products. They were able to make one 'eyebrow' window in one piece due to glass thickness that other vendors would have had to do in two pieces due to size. We just felt that overall ASP's SIW windows offered a little more safety. Our city inspector must have thought the same thing because he commented several times about how strong they were and event wrote down what they were for his own personal needs. I assume he has seen a lot of windows to inspect, so that gave me even more confidence that we made the right decision. We also had hurricane fabric installed for a covered section of our patio to replace an accordion that was being removed for storage outside of patio furniture, gas grill and plants during a storm. The hurricane fabric is so strong and convenient, it folds up and is stored in a bag, sitting in our closet. Chris our ASP sales person was great at explaining and patient while we did our due diligence. It did take a while for manufacturing, but definitely worth the wait. The installers were professional, keeping the areas as clean as possible, We are very happy with our new impact windows and sliding doors. Our house looks great with the new windows (and accordions removed). Would highly recommend."

"We hired Guinn and Sons to install our hurricane panels. The process was smooth and they were transparent and communicated throughout each step of the project. They offered us a fair price and provided a great quality finishing product. Thank you, Guinn and Sons!"

"Windows are good. Work was sloppy. Still finding shards of glass on the floor and the furniture a week after completion. Caulking looks like a third grader did it- including caulking the screen door to the frame. For this type of investment, they should act like professionals."

"First of all, the 4 stars that were left behind were due to the back end side of communication. I requested my doors have locks for my sliding glass doors from Michael Palmer and that didnâ t happen. Our first visit was EXTREMELY pleasant. I personally felt the communication following that was a bit lacking. I have an odd schedule so I know thatâ s difficult for him but I felt as though once he got my business the service declined. As for the actual installation, Johnny, Adrian, Marcos, Robert, and the one other installer were excellent. Very pleasant to be around. Very very kind I would recommend THEM to ANYONE for any job they all deserve to be paid a premium for their work and their service. I do think they could have done a better job of sectioning off the house. A lot of dust got in which I know is to be expected but it was more than I think it shouldâ ve been. Finally, Alessandro who came to ensure everything was ready for the inspection and make any final changes was by far the most pleasant subcontractor of any kind that I have worked with (and I worked in construction for a year). He was extremely communicative, nice, and did an excellent job of not only getting done what needed to be done but listening to me and making sure I was happy with the service. He asked me if I had any issues or questions and was patient. I believe he should be promoted to some sort of managerial position or honestly even a project manager simply from his communication and how heard I felt. Canâ t say enough good things! Finally, I think you guys should inform customers that the holes punched for the drilling of the doors is not going to be filled in or (better yet) actually just fill them in. I also think hiring a professional painter for the finishing work after a job would be inexpensive and would go a long way for customers. Thank you guys for everything. Regardless of my complaints, I would recommend the service and love my new windows and door!"

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

The best way to transport wine glasses is to pack them upright in a divided, padded box designed specifically for stemware. First, wrap each glass individually with bubble wrap or packing paper, ensuring both the bowl and the delicate stem are cushioned. If you don't have a divided box, you can still pack them safely. After wrapping each glass and securing the material with tape, place them upright in a sturdy box. Layer soft items like dish towels, crumpled paper, or clothing between the glasses to prevent them from touching. Fill any remaining gaps with additional padding to keep the glasses snug and prevent shifting. Finally, clearly label the box as “FRAGILE GLASSWARE” or “FRAGILE–HANDLE WITH CARE” to ensure careful handling.

While wavy glass is sometimes called antique glass or restoration glass due to the fact that it's found exclusively in older homes, the proper names for wavy glass are actually crown glass and cylinder glass. Most commonly used for circular or portal windows, crown glass was created by manufacturers using a process of blowing and spinning. Meanwhile, cylinder glass was used more commonly because it created large square sheets that could be shaped to fit windows of all shapes and sizes.

While finding your mirror cracked can be spooky, there are actually many logical and common reasons why this happens. First, the mirror may have been mounted unevenly in the first place. Over time, poor mounting leads to stress points that will eventually cause a mirror to crack. Other common causes of a mirror spontaneously cracking include dramatic temperature shifts, strong thunder or a loud crash somewhere in the distance, exposure to heat and sunlight, and an uneven wall in your home. It's also possible that your mirror had a manufacturing defect or microscopic cracks that occurred during glass cutting or handling that eventually caused it to shatter.

Replacing window glass instead of the entire window is more cost-effective, maintains the frame's aesthetics, and reduces waste. It improves insulation and energy efficiency and can be completed more quickly with minimal disruption to the home.

Prior to the middle part of the 1900s, glass manufacturers used a technique that involved blowing glass into cylinder shapes that were then flattened out to create sheets used for windows and doors. This technique often left behind ripples and inconsistencies in the glass.
