For more details and a complete list of services we offer please check our Services page. We also provide natural bacterial solutions for your drains and septic systems which promote long life of your system while helping to protect our environment. "Prior to installation, my water heater was old but compliant with local laws and passed inspection. After installation, it failed inspection, and Raider Rooter refused to address the issue. They claim I need an electrician to install a shut-off valve, citing a “new law,” but this requirement has existed since 2011—something any reputable plumber should know. I offered to split the cost; they declined, leaving me with a water heater that now fails inspection. Their contract did not disclose this potential need, which would have changed my review. Instead, they left me with a non-compliant water heater."

Septic Tanks questions, answered by experts

A septic tank always has some amount of liquid in it—which should usually be 8 to 12 inches from the top of the tank. If the liquid level is higher than that or is overflowing the drainage pipe that leads out to the leach field, the tank may be too full and in need of pumping.

The septic tank needs to be pumped at least every three to five years. If the septic tank is too small for the property, you might find it needs to be pumped more frequently, and during an inspection, a septic company may recommend updating your system to a larger septic tank. While 750-gallon tanks used to be standard, septic tanks with a 1,250-gallon capacity are now more common.

A well lasts at least 25 years, after which the natural sediment and minerals in the soil and water can build up and affect the well. Parts of the well, particularly the well pump, tend to wear out faster and require replacement after 15 to 20 years. Once the well reaches the end of its life span, you can hire a pro to seal it before drilling a new well in another location.

When testing the pressure of your well tank, the psi should be two below the cut-on pressure. For example, if your tank is set to 40/60, then your pressure should be at 38 psi.

Septic systems can last anywhere from 15 to 40 years and even longer with proper care. However, accidents caused by weather or fires can drastically shorten this lifespan, and it may not reach its full potential without regular inspections and proper maintenance, like pruning back overgrown tree roots.
