"I had three other landscape services out to give us quotes before selecting Tropiscapes, which I did immediately based on how much more professional Michael was, and how much more passionate. I don't know plants, and I don't have the first idea what to do with an empty yard--I want someone to come in with a vision and tell me based on their superior experience what's going to look good. Michael was that man. Not only did he have a vision, he was excellent at communicating it: he showed up on the second visit with a gorgeous blueline drawing illustrating exactly what would go where. (I haven't seen drafting skills like that since my father's mechanical engineering shop. I kind of wished I could have kept the original pencil work.) Tropiscapes did great work with the actual planting: quick, accurate, and keeping us informed. The follow-up was also excellent. I like that I can text Michael with questions or photos of plants and ask him what they need if they look odd to me, and he's willing to answer. (Also, I like companies who will text me instead of calling. I can't always take a phone call; being able to check my texts on my own time is far easier, plus it means the same information can be disseminated to both me and my spouse, saving us communication time.) So, in basic: 1. Can tell you what to do with your yard even when you don't have any ideas. 2. Has an artistic sensibility with an architect's meticulousness. 3. Flexible about communication methods. 4. Punctual and works to schedule. 5. Willing to educate and help with questions. And if this matters, 6. Employs local youths, giving them valuable work experience in a useful trade. An excellent experience. When we get around to doing the backyard, we'll be calling Tropiscapes."
