Rafael wanted to come that day but I wanted the next day, the technicians were on time wire their mask. Found the problem was the thermostat then a problem in the circuit breaker box. The price was great that I hired them right away without getting another company to come over. They fixed the problem so far I am happy the only issue was communicating with the technicians but living in South Florida you get used to that, but their kindness and professionalism made up. "I originally reached out to A-Max a few months ago for routine preventative maintenance on our HVAC systems in our home. It was important to me to establish an ongoing relationship with a reputable firm as our previous service provider went out of business. I wanted a company that I could trust and rely upon for good service at a fair price. Based on the Angie's List reviews, I chose A-Max to perform the preventative maintenance. Nothing noteworthy occurred during this service call and I was satisfied that A-Max could be my "go to" AC service company. As it turned out I did need service about 2 weeks ago so I called A-Max. They came out and determined I needed a new thermostat. The technician replaced the thermostat for $195. Unfortunately I experienced another issue just a few days ago whereby the AC was not cooling at all and just blowing air. I called A-Max for service early in the morning and a technician came out later that afternoon. The issue was diagnosed as a faulty compressor. The technician verified with the local Reem distributor that the compressor (part only) had a 10 year warranty and the part would be covered under the manufacturers warranty (as I sighed with relief). Then I was told the "labor only" to replace the faulty compressor would be $850. Additionally. there would be refrigerant and "pick up" fees of $470 bringing the price to replace the warrantied compressor to $1320. That price seemed excessive so I challenged the technician on it and he called the office to obtain a reduced price of $1110. That price still seemed excessively high and simply did not feel right. I told the technician that I would let A-Max know of my decision. The next morning I called several other AC service providers with my HVAC unit model number and asked them for a quote on the labor and necessary refrigerant. Each one gave me an estimate quite a bit less than the A-Max quote. I selected one of the companies to do the job. The technician replaced the compressor and refrigerant in less than 3 hours. The price that I paid was less than half the A-Max quote. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not be calling A-Max again for service."
