"Jose responded quickly. He was willing to help my senior mom understand the issue with the HVAC. He also showed her how to work the thermostat. He took pictures for me and made sure the job was done right."

"Norman is an excellent HVAC technician and perfect for all your A/C needs. He is honest, straight-forward, and very knowledgable. He was able to repair my grandma's A/C when others were not able to. "My experience with this company was unbelievably excellent and I am very hard to please as a customer. I met with Chris the sales representative at 10am on Saturday and ARS was installing my AC unit (this was a complete new installation had a wall unit) at 2pm that same day. Gilberto and his assistant were very professional and courteous. My installation was completed on Monday pending the electrician who completed the job today. Believe me, I will be recommending this company to others!!!!"

"Team that did the work was very nice and professional and cleaned up after themselves. Air felt cleaner and fresher after they were done. Unfortunately our package didn't include cleaning the dryer vent. When I asked what that cost would be they said that they couldn't do that vent because they didn't have that equipment with them. Never learned what the cost would be."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Evaporator coils in an HVAC system typically last between 10 and 15 years, which is roughly the same lifespan as the entire AC unit. The longevity of the coils can be affected by usage frequency, environmental conditions, and how well they are maintained. Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, can extend their durability. If the evaporator coil fails in an older air conditioner, it may be more cost-effective to replace the whole unit rather than just the coil.

Most AC repair technicians will take between two and six hours to carry out repairs, depending on the work needed and the accessibility of the unit. For example, recharging refrigerant lines should take one to two hours to service, while replacing a compressor, blower fan, or other major components can take five to eight hours. You can ask your AC repair technician how long they expect the job to take, but just in case, you should plan on being home and available for most of the day.

Yes, a dirty air filter can cause a higher electric bill. That’s because clogged filters make it harder for air to flow through your HVAC system, which forces it to work harder and use more energy. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, replacing dirty filters can save you between 5% and 15% in utility costs.

No, you should not attempt to replace an AC evaporator coil yourself. This is a complex task that must be performed by a licensed HVAC technician. The process involves handling hazardous and flammable refrigerants, which poses significant safety risks. Attempting a DIY replacement can also cause further damage to your HVAC system and will likely void its warranty. It is necessary to hire a local AC repair professional for this job.

While many states do not have specific licensing requirements for HVAC companies, your local city or county might. It's always a good idea to check local requirements online and use a tool like Angi’s contractor license lookup to confirm that the company you’re considering is licensed. Regardless of licensing, you should always ensure the company you hire is fully insured to avoid potential lawsuits if a technician is injured on your property. Additionally, it is recommended to check if the company holds third-party certifications, such as North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or R-410A certification, which qualifies them to work with HVAC refrigerants.
