"Berto was great! I sent pictures of work needed and locations, sent pics of materials for the job. Got instant quote and they had Berto on his way the same day. He is a highly recommended carpenter. I will be calling for more projects in the works. Flawless work. A plus Rating."

Customers say: True professional

"Mike and his crew did an outstanding job with our kitchen remodel. This included taking down walls, moving doorways, and replacing our kitchen window. We also changed an old slider out for a new impact rated French door. As we got into the project, our plans changed and we ended up replacing the glued-down wood floors in most of the house with ceramic. The entire project was managed and coordinated perfectly by Mike and his team. This was our first large remodel, and we couldn't be happier. You can, without question, depend on Mike and his sons to be knowledgeable, punctual, patient, and respectful. His designer, Regina was a pleasure to work with, as well."

"The trunk was in very bad condition. Eugenio restored the outside and the inside, including building a drawer/shelf that was missing. It took a month longer than originally promised, but the results were worth it. Eugenio was actually recommended to me by another furniture restoration company that was highly rated, but did not restore trunks. While it cost more than I'd like, I was happy with the results.

"I have never met a person so meticulous and perfectionist at his job. Eber went out of his way to make sure that my wife and I were pleased. Eber is a true professional and is one of the last few people that actually cares about doing a GREAT JOB. I would recommend him in a heartbeat"

"Edward Ryan worked with us every step of the way... he helped us get the designs and permits and did a large amount of the work himself. He has a great work ethic and kept everything moving forward. The subcontractors he did use were very professional. They did such a great job that you would have a hard time figuring out where the addition was put on if you didn't know where to look. I fully intend to use him again for home renovations we have planned."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Not all porch columns are load-bearing, though they can be. Some porch columns are simply decorative. There are ways to identify a load-bearing column, like looking for visible seams and a foundation. Also, check to see if the column directly enters the ground. In some porch installations, a contractor will excavate a hole to install a column into the earth along with a buried cement base for stability.

In framing, studs are placed at 16-inch intervals to coincide with the typical spacing of wall materials such as drywall or plywood. This spacing is called "on-center" and is necessary for maintaining structural stability and efficient use of materials. The 16-inch spacing also helps to distribute the weight evenly across the building's structure. For those looking to cut material costs and improve energy efficiency, 24-inch stud spacing can be employed through a method called "advanced framing". This requires careful planning and adherence to local building codes to ensure structural integrity.

New builds, remodels, and additions often necessitate professional framing expertise.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

The average cost of DIY window framing is about $40 to $60 in materials. If you hire a window treatment professional, you’ll pay for materials plus labor costs—anywhere from $250 to $800 per window. The final cost is highly dependent on the window size, as larger windows are heavier and more difficult to install, as well as the type of window framing material.
