"Cornerstone covered our concrete sidewalk with pavers and wow, what a difference! It looks so good Iâ  ve asked them to come back and do more. Everything was as finished and no mess or debris left behind. Highly recommend!."

"Alpha Foundations did an excellent job on our lanai. In the process of stabilizing the lanai slab, they remedied the cracks and uneven surface caused by a combination of ground settling and improper installation during the initial house construction. They were knowledgeable and professional, explained what they were doing very well, were very detail oriented, and demonstrated great customer service. They exceeded our expectations and we would very much recommend them to others needing similar services."

"Terra Pavers have completed two projects for me. The first involved installation of a large paver patio where a large tree had been removed and a large hole was left. I could not have asked for a better outcome or a more professional crew. The attention to detail is incredible. The workmanship is outstanding. One year later, the second project involved widening of my driveway with pavers. Once again a huge ficas tree was removed and Terra Pavers arrived to a huge hole filled with roots. The crew was spectactular and took extra time prep the area and install the base so as to avoid future settling. Terra Pavers specializes in doing things correctly, doing little things to make your job look special and ensuring your satisfaction. The workmanship and final product make their pricing more than fair. I highly recommend Terra Pavers."

"We hired CC Paving to address multiple trip hazards throughout one of our medical plaza properties, and they did an outstanding job. There were 17 different areas that needed attention, many of them caused by tree roots lifting and shifting the pavers over time. Safety was a major concern because of the amount of daily foot traffic from patients, visitors, and tenants. Instead of recommending a costly replacement project, they provided a practical repair plan that fit our budget. They removed roots where necessary, re-leveled affected areas, and performed patchwork repairs throughout the property. The difference was immediately noticeable, and the walkways were much safer once the work was completed. What impressed us most was their honesty and attention to detail. They took the time to identify the problem areas, explain the repair process, and focus on solutions that made sense financially. The work was completed professionally, and the repaired sections blended in well with the e"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Certain towns and homeowner associations (HOAs) ban brick mailboxes because of the risk of obstruction. They are sometimes only permitted in cases where four or more homes share a mailbox. Homeowners may need to obtain special permits in some locations. One of the top masonry contractor hiring tips is to ask a local pro if they can show you examples of recent work that meets local code regulations.

A traditional German schmear uses mortar, making it unsuitable for adherence to painted surfaces. Professionals recommend removing any existing paint before applying mortar. However, you can rough up the painted surface and clean it to test if the mortar will stick. Remember that the underlying paint's texture and color may affect the schmear's final appearance—so starting with a bare brick wall will ensure the ideal finish.

Drilling into brick or mortar requires the use of a masonry drill bit. Masonry drill bits appear similar to standard drill bits except for the leading tip of the bit. The tip has a bulky carbide arrow-shaped end slightly larger than the rest of the bit shaft. Standard or high-speed drill bits designed for making holes in wood or metal don’t have the ruggedness or design shape you need to drill into brick. They may not go through the brick at all, and if they do, they’re more likely to overheat, crack, or dull before you finish drilling.

Initially, brick staining is not cheaper than painting. However, while it has a higher up-front cost, it may be more cost-effective in the long run. Brick stain can last for 20 years or longer, compared to paint, which usually starts to peel away in three to five years.

If you’re attempting to mix and pour your own mortar, expect to pay between $5 to $10 for an 80-pound bag of mix. The cost to repair mortar, however, can range from $300 to $500 for a 20-square-foot wall. The larger the area and the more extensive the repair, the higher the cost.
