"We have been long time customers (over 10 years) using them for annual maintenance and repairs as needed. Up till this year, it has been great. We have recommended them to family and friends. Something has changed in the business drastically and we are not the only ones who have noticed. Recently, we noticed stains around our AC vents. We asked for someone to come out and look. For whatever reason, we were told Stanley Barineau insisted on responding to take a look. At first, that seemed like just good service. Mr. Barineau came out, looked at our vents, and advised the duct work needed new insulation. He did not go in the attic. Since this seemed reasonable, we took the $500 quote and scheduled the work. My wife took leave that day from work to be here. After the scheduled time came and went, my wife called to find out if they were running late. She was told the crew was tied up on another project and could not make it. No call to let her know or to reschedule. I guess we were expected to call them when they did not show. We rescheduled for the following Friday. Once again, my wife took off work. This time, a single employee showed up. He took a look at the duct work and advised re-wrapping would not solve the issue. The insulation would need to be stripped first. Instead of working up an estimate, he advised we would need to schedule another appointment for the estimate and suggested we schedule the work in cooler weather. Once again, we called for another appointment. Once again, Mr. Barineau apologized and promised to give us a new quote. He did not. It is now 7 days later. We called during regular business hours and got the answering machine. No call to follow up with a long-standing customer. No effort made to keep a long standing customer. No effort to fix repeatedly abysmal service. I suggest you find someone else to work with. This company has obviously gone off the rails from the top down. I expect they will be out of business soon from what I am seeing on their recent reviews."

"Perfectly! On-time, polite, and clean. The price was very reasonable and the new unit lowered my energy bills. I recommend this family owned and operated business."

"DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY... Unprofessional. They lack knowledge of HVAC systems and duct design. Left drain lines improperly installed. Tried to install a substandard condenser other than the one I was given a price on. Refuse to communicate with me after they received payment...I have made attempts to contact them to resolve the poor installation but they refuse to fix the issues..I regret hiring them and ask that other people do not. Only thing I will say is that the workers were nice but not management."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

The average life span of an HVAC system is 15 to 20 years. Even if your old air conditioner is still functional, it isn't as energy-efficient as a newer system (especially one with an Energy Star designation). Older HVAC systems aren't as efficient, and the 10-year mark is when you should start making full system replacement plans. Twenty years in, that plan should be well underway rather than waiting for the unit to die.

Capacitors are the most frequent part of an HVAC system to experience failure. These components are crucial for starting the motors that power the fans and compressor, but over time, they may become worn or fail due to electrical surges or regular wear and tear. When capacitors malfunction, HVAC systems may experience decreased heating or cooling efficiency, or even total system failure. Replacement or maintenance of capacitors is a common requirement for the optimal functioning of HVAC systems.

The cost of annual maintenance depends on the type of HVAC system you have. AC service typically costs an average of $200 but ranges from $100 to $550. If your system needs repairs, the price will vary significantly depending on what needs fixing. However, addressing the issues as they arise can prevent further damage to your unit and keep it operating efficiently for much longer.

You may never need an AC recharge if there are no leaks. However, if your AC unit has a leak that cannot be patched appropriately, you’ll need an AC recharge every time the freon level drops low enough that it disrupts your system—this could be once every two to three years. It all depends on the size and frequency of the leak.

Condensation forms when warmer, outside air combines with cooler air in your ductwork. This can happen when there are leaks in your air ducts, your HVAC system has a dirty air filter, or there’s a lack of insulation around the ducts. To prevent it from happening, replace your HVAC filters as directed. Also, once every five years, hire a local air duct cleaner to clean and inspect them.
