Harper Revell Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

About us

In 1961 Harper Revell started his career in the heating and air conditioning business by working at a local company where he learned the ins and outs of heating and air. Harper had always dreamed of owning his own business, and in 1982 he fulfilled this dream when he started Big Bend Heating and Air. He ran the business out of his own house with only one used truck and $200, but the phones never rang. Harper decided to change the name of his company to something to ensure that the people of Tallahassee would know who he was, so why not Harper Revell Heating & Air? Since the name change the phones haven't quit ringing. The mission of Harper Revell (the man) and the company is to do what you say and to always be a name you can trust. This belief has kept the company going for 25 years. Harper Revell Heating and Air specializes in: Servicing Heat pumps and gas furnaces, replacement and servicing of bath fans, thermostat upgrades, repairing and replacing duct systems, replacing complete HVAC systems, indoor Air Quality (Filters, UV lights, and Air purification), heating and Air conditioning systems for new construction, remodels and commercial buildings. It took the technician three trips in May to try and figure out what was wrong with my AC - why the system was shutting down when the temperature outside went over 100 degrees. And it turned out that the part he replaced was not the cause of the problem because it happened again at the end of August. When I called them about coming back out to find out what was going on, they couldn't come for 4 days and even if the part they replaced in May proved to be defective, I would have to pay for the labor of replacing the part a 2nd time. Needless to say, I was not impressed. I do not recommend HarperRevel - there are too many other AC firms out there to put up with this kind of customer abuse.

Harper Revell Heating and A/C (HRHAC) was the contractor who installed my two heat pumps in my home, the first in 2006 and a second one added 2008. HRHAC consequently has been the company whom I called for routine maintenance of, and problems with, either heat pump.
Last month, I called HRHAC and asked them to schedule a technician to come out and check my smaller (1.5 ton) heat pump which was not cooling the two rooms (575 sq ft) that it normally cools effortlessly. The technician came out a week later as scheduled. He and quot;checkedand quot; the outside component and the fan component up in the attic - all within 30 minutes. He informed me that the heat pump appeared to be working fine, including having enough coolant. When I asked him why it was not cooling properly as before (bedroom temp at 8PM was 80 degrees), all I got was a shoulder shrug and a suggestion to keep the door of the stairway leading to the other room open. I tried that and it made the problem worse.
After spending over $1000 on an indoor air conditioner and a solar-powered roof vent, and after finding my electric bill was 30% higher than normal because this heat pump kept running 21 - 22 hours out of every 24 hours, I decided to call Benson's Heating and A/C.
Benson's Heating and A/C technician arrived as scheduled. She was knowledgeable, courteous, and thorough. Although she quickly identified the problem (low coolant), she checked every component of the heat pump. She added 5 lbs of Freon and felt that it should resolve the problem. If not, she informed me what the next step would be in identifying the problem (all be it less likely). Amazingly, the heat pump has been working perfectly for the past week.
I will never rely on Harper Revell Heating and A/C again.

We've been very pleased with them. They took care of the problem promptly. I would highly recommend Harper Revell. All of our dealings with them over the last year had been good. Their prices are very reasonable.

The workers showed up on time and re-built a wood deck. Moved 2 air units onto the new deck away from the tree roots next to the house and hooked them up again. They were awesome! The deck is perfect and the units were up and running at the end of the day. Definite great customer service. Good price and awesome work! I would recommend them to anyone and frequently do recommend them to co-workers.

The installation was completed on time, everything was cleaned up and the unit worked with no problems. I was quite impressed with the way that the installation was handled. Rick and Darryl handled the installation very well and Mary Beth kept me informed before and after via phone calls and email. She stays on top of things and lets you know what is going to take place. Harper came by to check and make sure everything was going well. I have had them out to service the unit on an upgrade from Trane. If you want excellent work done both with an installation or for service work you cannot do better than Harper Revell HVAC. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and exceptional in their work. I am very pleased with all that was done.

Very good experience. They arrived on time. It took 1 day. They cleaned up after themselves. Disposed of all debris. Owner Harper Revel met the inspector the next morning. Evrything thing went well.

Service was prompt. Fortunately we were able to have the a.c. fixed over the weekend, even though we knew we would be charged overtime, which we expected. We feel confident to call on them anytime and know we will be helped.

Disappointing. We called because of a clogged A/C drain line. The technician cleared the line using a shop vac. This took 10 minutes, and he said the total charge would be $120. He also said we needed a new A/C and quoted a price of $5000-$6000. I had assumed there would be a charge for the visit, but I should have asked before scheduling, as this was higher than other companies charge. I called Harper Revell right after the visit, and they agreed to reduce the charge to $95, but we received the invoice 10 days later for $120. I called to pay with a credit card and reminded them they agreed to reduce the charge to $95 (which still seems high). They agreed, but I am still not sure what the credit card charge will be. Not a big deal, but disappointing. Also, we were able to get the A/C repaired later the same day by another company for a reasonable price, so although our system is old, we don't need a new A/C.

The A/C stopped working 24 hours later. It was obvious that the drain line had not been cleaned. I used my shop vac and air compressor to blow out the drain line and drain the condensate pan. Now that the drain line is clear, the A/C unit has been working well for the past two weeks.
Response from Harper Revell Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

"I am very sorry you were not happy with the service, however had you called us back when the system quit cooling we would have returned for no additional charge. As you stated, the system worked for at least a day after the service was performed. Drains on A/C units can become clogged with some pretty nasty stuff and sometimes you just don't get it all the first time. I checked our service history for your account and see that we have only been to your address once before, 10 years ago. It is recommended that a system have a routine maintenance at least once a year to help prevent these types of problems."

They arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m., as indicated. They explained briefly at the door what they would be doing. Most of their work was under the house, with the exception of installation of a new thermostat and upgrading the breaker box, so I did not actually see them a great deal. I went outside a couple of times and spoke with them. Except for a lunch break, they were here until around 4:00 p.m. Everything was cleaned up and tidy and my new AC system was cooling my home.

These guys were awesome. The call was scheduled quickly by Mary Beth for 8 a.m. They were exactly on time, had all of their tools and supplies and went right to work. They were very conscious of not making a mess (which they did not) and were very polite and personable. I was very impressed. I will definitely use Harper Revell for all of my service calls and maintenance.

After my AC went out in the middle of the night I called Harper-Revell to request a service call. They were able to work me in because they knew I had no air. John was on time and very professional. He finished the repairs in less than 30 minutes. Very happy with this company!

My tenant reported a problem with the heater. A technician evaluated
the unit the same afternoon. The repair was made the following day.
Harper Revell did an excellent job at communicating with both my tenant
and me about scheduling the work. Their technician was professional and
personable and even spent a bit of time cleaning off the unit (which
was not within the scope of work quoted). Great experience! Will
definitely continue to use Harper Revell.
