"Very quick response from Alex with onsite estimate for demo/replacement of driveway. Crew showed up the next day @ 0800 hrs & worked in concert to provide me with a beautiful driveway. Kudos for fast, efficient, quality work."
An Asphalt Overlay(Repaving a 2.5 inch layer over existing driveway) is a very efficient and durable solution when done the proper way.
First off we start the preparations by removing the asphalt sections near garage and sidewalks to have a flush finish on completion.
We also remove the grass and dirt in the desired extension area. Once that is done the crushed stone is added.
After the entire driveway is Edged and Clean, we are almost ready to Pave!
Last but not least a pre-fill layer of asphalt is poured on any low or damaged areas to prevent any problems in the future.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

In Dover, extensive alligator cracking is a major red flag, as it often signals base failure due to clay soil movement. Other key signs include significant settling, standing water from poor slope, and recurring potholes in the same spots. If you notice vegetation growing through cracks or widespread edge deterioration from freeze-thaw cycles, your asphalt paving likely needs to be redone.

Helpful?

After your asphalt paving project is complete, keep a file with the signed contract, payment receipts, and any material warranties. It’s also wise to have before-and-after photos, utility clearance confirmations, and copies of any permits required by the Dover Building Department. These records are essential for property value documentation, future maintenance, and addressing any potential warranty claims down the road.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Dover often underestimate the need for soil stabilization to address local clay conditions and the potential costs of installing proper drainage systems like French drains. The time required for permit processing with the Dover Building Department and project delays due to unpredictable weather are also frequently overlooked. Budgeting for landscaping restoration after the work is finished is another commonly forgotten step.

Helpful?

In a typical Dover home, asphalt paving primarily solves issues caused by the area's clay-heavy soil and flat topography. It provides a stable surface that resists settling, cracking, and water pooling common in the region. A properly paved driveway also improves curb appeal, enhances property accessibility during wet weather, and makes snow removal much easier during Delaware’s winter months.

Helpful?

A frequent mistake during asphalt paving projects in DE is inadequate soil preparation, which fails to account for the region's expansive clay. Other common errors include insufficient drainage planning for flat terrain, not verifying a contractor's local experience, and rushing the curing process in Delaware's humid conditions. It is also important to call 811 to locate utilities before any excavation begins.
