"Company was hired to prepare and excavate a pad site for a pole barn garage. The guy "Wilson" knows what he is doing however he short changed me on the services that we agreed to. In addition, he under estimated materials needed to complete the work as well as while excavating the area, my sprinkler system was damaged. I had to advise him to come back and complete compaction of fill dirt. After compaction you were able to see that the site was clearly not leveled. I had to bring in more fill dirt to accommodate for this. I paid him anyway because his effort was good, but after payment he never followed up with me. It's like once he was paid then you never hear from him!"

"Some years ago, we had the drain pipe replaced that drains the back yard into a pipe in the basement, which then connects to the drain pipe to the city stormwater/sewer system. Ever since, water has come in directly around the pipe during heavy or persistent, soaking rain. Plumbers had confirmed there was no leak in the pipes, and concrete contractors had stated that the concrete in the back yard and basement looked good. Rightway proposed to excavate the concrete back yard around the drain pipe, seal the area around the pipe with hydraulic cement with tar and plastic coatings, backfill, and replace the concrete yard surface. All of this was done within a day, working in tight quarters. The crew was friendly and courteous. They had to buy extra cement to fill areas that had washed away under the pipe. The finished concrete looks nice. Then we waited for the rain. A heavy rain fell about a month later, and unfortunately the repair did not solve the problem. Rightway returned to investigate, and we were all mystified. It was unclear whether further repairs to the wall, beyond rebuilding, would have fixed the problem. Rightway offered, under its warranty, to install a drain and sump pump in this corner of the basement floor to catch and dispose of the water that enters the basement at this location. Again, all work was done in less than a day, working in tight quarters in the basement, working around the hot water heater, appliances, and electrical meter and ground. This new crew was again courteous, and hung plastic to keep concrete dust from wafting up the stairs when they broke up the basement floor. While it doesn't stop the water from coming in, it no longer floods the back of my basement. All storms since have been well contained in the sump pit, and the basement remains dry. All Rightway employees, from salesman to crew to office staff, were courteous, responsive, and answered my many questions with patience. "
"It went well. When the excavator was working, I didn't really understand when he asked if we wanted to "feather" the uneven ground around the pool- so now we have a lot of ground without the grass that was there because the feathering was put over top of the grass - killing it. Overall, I would recommend C&D's. They were very responsive every step."

Call 811 to locate and mark the gas lines at least three days before digging. In many areas, you can dig within 18 inches of the lines, though in some locations, the distance may be further. Check local regulations, as you may need a utility company representative onsite when digging. Document your calls to 811 and precautions taken to avoid gas lines. A homeowner can be held liable for hitting a gas line in some cases, but contacting the proper authorities and following all guidelines can offer protection.
In the United States, a depth of 36 inches (three feet) for underground water lines is the accepted industry standard. This depth varies from location to location based on local conditions. In areas with colder winters, they may be buried deeper to prevent frozen well water pipes : This is usually at least six inches below the frost level. The International Plumbing Code calls for a minimum of 12 inches below grade.
Trenching and boring are two distinct methods for installing underground utilities. Trenching involves digging a channel using equipment like an excavator, trencher, backhoe, or shovel. While it is a simpler process, it causes significant disruption to the surface, landscaping, and surrounding ecosystems.
Boring, also known as directional boring, is a less invasive alternative that uses a drill to create a tunnel for utility lines without disturbing the surface. This method is more precise and is ideal for installations that need to go underneath buildings, roads, or bodies of water. Although boring is less disruptive, it is generally more expensive than trenching.
You should dig 3 to 6 inches deep for plastic edging. Dig as wide as you need to fit your plastic edging into it—2 inches is usually sufficient.
There are many ways to cut through roots when digging, especially if your trencher doesn’t seem to be removing the roots. First, use a shovel to expose the roots. Then, use gardening shears to clear out smaller roots or a reciprocating saw to remove larger plant roots. If you plan on keeping the plant, avoid cutting any roots over 2 inches thick.
