"We contracted Exteriors of CT to do a siding replacement. Our house had cedar shakes that were continually peeling and we also had some wood rot in places. Chris Luby was one of the first people we contacted because of the great reviews from the past. His response was quick and personal. We did an initial walk around of the house and he pointed out what his recommendations were and it was within my expectations. His quote was quick, competitive and fair. We received quotes from two other firms and Exteriors got the job. One thing that was a huge differentiator was that Chris didn't nickel and dime us on the job. We negotiated a few changes to the initial quote and the job got underway. The crew that did the job, Alix and Jose, were hard workers and their work product was excellent. They were great to work with and were always responsive to any changes that we made along the way. The quality of the final product is above our expectations (and our expectations were high!). We highly recommend Exteriors of CT."

We work as 3 to 4 man team. I am onsite when my job is running typically up on the roof working along side the guys leading by example. We normally take a 50% deposit at contract signing, then 25% at half way completion, then final payment immediatly upon completion of job before our final departure on the final day. The initial deposit amount is negotiable. If this is a concern please let us know :)

Windows questions, answered by experts

Vinyl windows have a few cons to consider before installing. For instance, while vinyl windows are energy efficient in terms of maintaining your home’s temperature, the actual process of making vinyl windows involves chemicals that are harmful for the environment. Vinyl windows are also less customizable than some other types of windows.

Here are a few questions to ask a egress window contractor you’re considering hiring to install a new window:

  • Are you licensed and insured?

  • What experience do you have installing egress windows?

  • How long will the project take?

  • How do you handle payment?

  • Do you do the work yourself or do you hire subcontractors?

  • Can I talk to some of your previous customers?

  • Do you have references and a portfolio of your work?

  • What is your schedule for getting the job done?

Yes, every window needs a lintel. The lintel is necessary for redistributing the load above the window to the walls around the window. Windows aren’t meant to support a load, so lintels are an important part of a window installation. If you go to replace your windows and discover there are no lintels, you may need a window company or structural engineer to install lintels for your new windows.

You should caulk your windows about every five to 10 years. But you should make sure to inspect the windows every year, typically before winter, to look for gaps or signs of failing caulk, such as cracking or peeling. If the caulk is weak, you may need to remove and replace it before it's five years old.

No, there is not a method to soundproof your windows 100%. While there are noise-reduction windows on the market that can reduce up to 95% of outside noise, there isn’t a way to completely block it out. If you’d like to block out as much noise as possible, consider hiring a pro to install new double-pane, triple-pane, or laminated windows, backed up by shutters or sound-dampening curtains.
