"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"I highly recommend Five Star Bath Solutions to anyone considering a bathroom remodel. From the very beginning, their team was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. They took the time to understand what we wanted. The quality of the workmanship was outstanding, although they ran into a few plumbing issues which caused a delay in finishing in two days, Eric Sokol the General Manager explained the issue and he and Sal the installer worked diligently to adjust and complete the installation. At all times, Eric and Sal were courteous, respectful of my home, and paid attention to every detail. My new bathroom looks beautiful, modern, and feels like a completely new space. If you are looking for a company that provides excellent customer service, high-quality products, and dependable work, Five Star Bath Solutions is a great choice. We would absolutely use them again and confidently recommend them to family and friends. Jame & JoAnn"

"We had to wait almost 3 months to get our new shower installed, parts were ordered but took a long time to be delivered. The installers were on time, hard working and cleaned up each day. The price was high for a shower stall."

Tub Shower Conversion questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can replace just the shower pan and leave the shower base as-is. However, you may need to replace both if the pan is leaking and causing damage to the base, like cracks. In this case, getting a new pan won’t fix your problems because you’ll eventually notice water damage in your home.

Most of the time, Medicare will not pay for a roll-in shower because it isn’t considered medically necessary. However, a doctor’s recommendation and other medical evidence may qualify you for reimbursement. If you need a roll-in shower for medical reasons, you will likely need to pay up front for installation and then apply for reimbursement.

Medicare does not typically cover the cost of a walk-in shower. The federal health insurance program considers a walk-in shower to be a home alteration rather than a medical necessity, even though walk-in showers would assist many people who are eligible for Medicare. Medicare Advantage Plans and Medicaid are more likely to cover the cost of a walk-in shower. It’s not a guarantee, even with a letter from a physician, and if reimbursement is authorized, it usually comes after the individual pays the upfront installation fee.

Yes, and no. Your shower, toilet, and sink all connect to the same main drain, but the secondary drains going from each fixture to the main drain are usually separate. This isn’t always the case—especially in older homes—but since toilets contain black water and showers, tubs, and sinks have grey water, toilets are more regulated and come at a greater risk of contamination. It’s best to keep these drains separate using individual waste collection for this reason.

The lifespan of a shower base depends on how often the shower is used, how it’s used, and how well it’s maintained. Acrylic and fiberglass shower bases last 10 to 15 years, while tile shower bases can last up to 20 years. However, if two people often use the shower at once or if heavy items are regularly dropped in the shower, the shower base’s lifespan might be shorter than average.
