"I really liked CT Basement systems. The sales rep walked me through the process of the basement SaniDry I had installed. When the installer came it turned out that I didn’t need all of the duct work and I was able to save a few hundred bucks. The installer was very professional, neat and helpful .   • Keep your pipes from freezing when temperatures drop by setting your thermostat to 55 degrees or higher.

  • Open under-sink cabinets to allow warm air to flow around the pipes. 

  • Let faucets drip to keep water moving.

  • Add insulation to crawl spaces or pipes to keep them warm.

PVC pipes are more affordable and applicable in most parts of your home’s plumbing system than copper pipes. They also require less maintenance. The only major restriction with PVC pipes is their low heat tolerance. Therefore, they’re not your best option for supplying hot water from the water heater throughout your home. PVC pipes are also larger in diameter, so they may not fit into certain spaces in your home.

Water heater pipes can freeze in one night if outdoor temperatures are cold enough. The lower the temperature, the quicker plumbing tends to freeze. If your pipes are well-insulated and you take proper preventative measures during the winter, your pipes should not freeze as rapidly as unprotected pipes might.

You’ll need two sizes of pipe to plumb a bathroom. You’ll use a 1/2-inch pressure pipe for your supply lines that run from the fixture to the larger 3/4-inch supply lines that run through the house. For drain lines, you’ll need a 3-inch PVC pipe for your toilet, a 2-inch PVC pipe for stand-alone showers, and a 1 1/2-inch pipe for a shower/tub combo and the bathroom sink. Each fixture’s drain will run to the 3-inch main drain that runs through the house.
