"Claudino is a true professional. Not only were the limbs and branches trimmed, as requested, he noticed other areas that needed addressing, as well. His pricing was very competitive. I will continue to hire him for ALL of our landscaping needs."

"Repaired and rebuilt front door brick steps and added 1-1/2â thick bluestone step treads. Did an excellent job and were very prompt and conscientious with their work. They were also low bid of four bids we received. Highly recommend AAAA+"

"It went perfect, excellent craftsmanship all around and an eye for detail. They cleaned up all the debris from their work and worked around the other construction going on. "I hired Talo's Masonary to build retaining wall in my front yard which was sloping down. The project also included removing the juniper and brush in the yard, filling the yard in the front and back with top soil and seeding. The work was started 3 days later than scheduled, but when John's crew of 4 came on Tuesday 8/28, they finished the project in 4 days. They did a great job, the grass has already come and I am very happy with the work. I would recommend Talo's masonary for stone work and landscaping."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

The cost to plant a small tree or sapling is between $100 and $300 on average, if you hire a professional. Big trees will cost more and usually require the work of a specialist, so expect to pay over $1,000 for those.

DIY home gardening can be relaxing, joyful, and cost-effective. From mowing your lawn to planting your own flower beds, there is a wide variety of gardening tasks that you can do yourself to make your yard look beautiful. If you’d rather spend your time not in the dirt, or if you’d like someone to take care of your plants for you, calling a professional gardening service is best. They can give you a workup of what services you’ll need and how often to schedule them.

A window flower box should be deep enough that there’s room for a wide selection of plants and the required amount of soil and gravel. Standard flower boxes are 8 inches deep and 8 inches from front to back. Larger is better to increase the variety of plants in the box, but you could run into stability issues as it increases in weight.

It is possible to DIY complete hardscaping projects, but in most cases, hiring a professional is best to get the job done correctly. Hardscaping—including installing patios, decks, retaining walls, walkways, and water features—is challenging and time-consuming, so the money you spend on a professional is typically worth it. Not only will the quality be better, but you could avoid problems that come along with a lack of hardscaping experience, like drainage issues that can lead to costly foundation damage and leaks in your home.

The soil around your foundation should slope down and away from your home, not toward it. If the grading drops the farther you are from your home, you can enhance the slope by removing more soil. Mark off a few feet from your house and dig up some of this soil. Regrading around your fountain should encourage water to flow away from your home and not collect or “pond.”
