Our well head has been buried since we bought the house and then one night after having a major rain storm, we had dirty water. Called Nigro plumbing and Tom called back immediately and suggested I get a water test (and suggested where to go) and he reviewed the results as well. We had bacteria. They came the next day to disinfect our well (after digging the cover up) and walked us through the process after disinfecting. He identified the source of the problem that we had a breach in our well pipe casing. I asked them when they could raise the well head and they were able to fit me in in less than a week. They got a lot of work done in a half day and the backhoe guy they hired was really good too. (let my 4 yr old sit in the seat). I will continue to go to Tom and his guys in the future. Thanks again.

We have called the company later on a Friday and Evan came early the next morning assessing our jet pump, pipes, location of well, etc. Jet pump was working almost 24/7 without stopping. Evan explained all the options from minimum work to maximum work with their pros and cons in detail. He also explained what can wait or not, which is one of the main reasons that I'd recommend his services because he did not steer us for the highest cost of services. On Saturday he fixed the immediate issue and we stated we'd decide which one of the options we'd pursue. Following Monday, issue worsened and we called him again late in the day and he came within hours. He put us in the schedule first thing the following morning, as well had a leak which caused the old pump to work even harder. We decided to go with the med-to-long term solution of replacing jet pump with submersible. he explained every step of the work, what can be done in the future, what doesn't need to be done because of the relatively good condition of our well. He worked with our electrician to finish everything around the same time. He gave us Angie's List discount. More importantly, he was courteous, knowledgeable, treated us as "people" as opposed to "just customers" addressing every question and concern we had. He also followed up one day after the service to see if everything was ok. We'd recommend especially Evan, and the Thomas Nigro & Son Company any time.

They extended the well casing above ground. He came on Christmas morning because the well was frozen. He said I don't know if this will work but I will try. He took the compressor and forced air down through the water piping. That did free up the foot valve at the bottom of the well. He said you are alright now. This only happens about 2% of the time. But I can tell by the way the foot valve is responding that it is very old and next summer when the ground is no longer frozen you are going to have to take the porch off and we will have to dig up the well. The top of the well is 4 feet underground and we will have to put in a new foot valve. So the net summer we did that and at that time you know using this kind of pump in the cellar with a foot valve down in the well is an old fashion way of doing it. What people will do now a days is get a submersible pump where the pump itself is not in your cellar. It goes way down in the well., It's this long skinny tube. It's about 4 inches in diameter and may be 3 feet long. But the pump itself goes way down in the well. They came one day and measured how far they will have to extend the well casing. The iron tubing that's outside the well. How far they would have to extend it above ground and they fabricated the iron thing. Then they came back the next day and they spent about 4 hours installing the new casing and putting in the submersible pump. They also tested my well for how deep the well was and turns out we have huge amounts of water. I was so relieved because we had a terrible drought last summer and I always worried about our well going dry. But I have no worries at all. They have the technology now. They drop something down the well and they heard a sound and they said you have 192 feet. My pumping mechanism only went down 77 feet. But now I have a sense of what my well is like and I have plenty of water. Now I know even if we have a big drought. I don't have to worry.

No water is a real disaster. A good friend recommended I call Thomas Nigro & Sons. They arrived within hours, promptly diagnosed and replaced the pump. They did a full system review checking to insure all else was in good shape. He was also kind enough to adjust our expansion tank for peak efficiency. I thought we may need a new one but he said we are ok for another couple of years. It's refreshing to have such honest and professional service done particularly when you are in a bind.

Called Tom at 9 AM on a Monday morning. Since I had no water Tom bumped another job in order to do mine. Evan quickly arrived by 10 AM. Evan did some tests, verified that the pump was not working at all and proceeded to pull the pump to the surface for inspection. I had guessed that the well was maybe 200 feet deep because of my proximity to the adjacent Scantic River. To our surprise it was actually almost 500 feet deep. He determined that the pump was about 7 years old (the well was drilled in 1992) and had developed an abrasion leak and resultant short circuit, possibly due to a poor installation. He also found numerous sections of the wiring which had been badly chafed, and many broken or missing WG-100 wire guides, again most likely due to poor installation. Evan worked tirelessly to pull all 500 feet of poly-piping, wire and pump to the surface. Fortunately the weather could not have been better. He replaced the pump, check valve, wire and wire guides and explained everything to me as he worked. He did not at all mind me looking over his shoulder during most of the nearly 8 hours that the job required (he never even stopped for lunch!). Evan explained everything to me as he worked and I learned a great deal about wells, of which I had no prior knowledge. When finished with the pump he went indoors to purge and test the entire system and replaced my filter cartridge and also left me with an extra one. I am completely satisfied with the work, and especially with Evan's knowledge and professionalism.
I gave the price a "B" only because, let's face it, we would all like to pay less. I researched several companies and read dozens of reviews and I am convinced that I paid a fair and reasonable price for the work performed. I guess you could say that I just got lucky and chose the right company but I'm sure glad I did.
Do not hesitate to hire Tom Nigro & Son Plumbing & Well Contractors if you ever need to have this type of work done.
I will surely call them first for any future plumbing needs I may have!

They came out late on a Monday to assess the problem and give me an estimate on the cost of the repair.   On the following Wednesday they appeared, along with a contactor who had a backhoe and they were able to use some coordinates/ description  left by a previous well repair contractor to locate the well.  After the well was repaired the disrupted soil was restored. The backhoe operator made a few additional passes with the equipment to clear out some overgrown shrubbery near the site of the excavation. Having that debris cleared was a bonus.  Once the work was underway the whole excavation/repair took about two and a half hours and my water was restored.  They were friendly, thorough and professional.  I will definitely call them again if the need arises.

I hired Thomas Nigro and Son to service and look at my well which I suspected was leaking. I also mentioned that my toilet had a very poor flush. Evan came out and while they generally only do well service he agreed to look at my toilet too while he was here. He was very honest with me and told me that I did not need to have my tank serviced and that I should buy a dehumidifier because it was a condensation problem. I had been notified prior that I would have to pay for the service call regardless which was 106.00 which is perfectly understandable. While he was here he fixed my toilet. The reason I have taken months to do my review was because prior to Evan fixing my toilet 2 other plumbers came out for the same issue. The second plumber came from a highly rated big company in the area and the toilet only worked for about a month before the same issue returned. I'm happy to report that 3 months later our toilet is working better than ever. Evan followed up on 2 separate occasions to see if our toilet was still working. I could not have asked for better service. The quality and honesty of this company is exceptional and I highly recommend them and will definitely use them in the future. I did not rate the price portion because I honestly don't know what a service call going rate is.

They were very prompt and did a great job. That guy was initially a little grouchy for having to stay late on a Friday, but I didn't blame him.

I called Tom Nigro late on a weeknight after we suddenly lost all water pressure in the house. This was my first time calling a plumber to my house since I bought it 4 years ago. I was expecting to leave a message for him first thing in the morning to call me but I got an answering service, who had Tom call me 5 minutes later. He explained that fixing the problem would most likely require them digging up the well pump. He also knew of my house and knew exactly where the well head was (previous owner did not raise it so it is burried). He and his crew showed up in the morning, right on schedule. They were very professional and gave me the their best estimate as to what would need to be done at a minimum. Of course when they dug things up there were a few other things that needed to be fixed. These were things that I wanted checked out/fixed anyway (such as a rotted/frayed pump power cable) so it worked out well in my mind. I think they were reasonably priced and they did a high quality job within hours of when my house stopped having water. They made additional recommendations for later service and provided estimates for that work. Overall, the pump was replaced with a new one, they replaced the fraying cable and replaced old and worn fittings/couplings in the process. The parts were about 2/3 the total cost. I know have better and more consistant water pressure than before. I will be using them again in the future.

The service was performed efficiently and quickly. When I called Thomas Nigro and Sons, it did take a day or so to get a response due to their busy schedule. If there was any complaints that would be the only one. If you get the same response don't give up call again, they are totally worth it. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism and the fact that they placed a sticker asking if there were any questions or need for' their return all we would have to do is look at the sticker. I've had three other plumbers work on the same plumbing in the past three years for leaks which were never resolved and I can't remember even one, and frankly wouldn't want to. Thank you gentlemen and wish you happy plumbing.

I called the company on 12/17/2012 when our water started cutting out during showers in the morning. Evan called me back in the afternoon and we scheduled him to come out 12/18/2012. Evan came out and checked the tank and system. The pump was 16 years old and had no ground wire so we needed new wiring. If we didn"t need new wiring the total would have been 200.00 less. The job took approximately 3 hours. Evan was nice, knowledgable and professional.

This review is long overdue as the service was done a year ago and I'm just posting this on 4/30/12. Thomas Nigro and Son was excellent and I'd recommend their services. I rated responsivness average-plus because I'm demanding and called a few times over a couple of days for an appointment. Ultimately I received a personal call from the owner and the subseqent service easily made up for any perceived delays on my part. The original call was for well pump service on a historic home I had purchased. The Nigros had done the original installation years ago. Not only did they service the pump, but walked me through my entire system (every room in the house that uses water), made several adjustments to make sure water flows were optimal and outlined what they could help with in the future based on my plans for the home. I was very impressed and pleased. I will be using them again.

The Nigro Plumbing contractor who did the work has 14 years experience replacing well pumps. The company itself had been in business for over forty years. My neighbor referred me to them based on his positive experience. The contractor was running about a half hour late but called to let me know. He showed up and promptly went to work removing the old pump motor and replaced it with a new, much quieter pump motor. He cleaned up after he completed the installation of the new pump. He also improved the water pressure which had been low. Start to finish took about two hours.
Response from Thomas Nigro & Son Plumbing/Well Contractors
"Glad to hear that you were satisfied. Thank you for trusting us to perform the work."
