"Eddie was great to work with from start to finish. To be honest, he wasn't the highest quote, nor was he the lowest quote. We picked Eddie because of how thorough his explanations were. During our first consultation: Unlike many of the other companies that we meet with, Eddie took the time to listen to our concerns and explain the entire process. He stayed as long as was necessary to make sure we felt that our questions were all answered. We liked him right away because of his thoroughness as well as how personable he was. It didn't seem like he was in it to "nickel and dime" us, rather, he explained two scenarios that could have happened- a bar price, and then a more costly one if the base of our driveway wasn't up to par. Right before the job: Eddie called us to give us a couple of days notice prior to ripping up the driveway. He was punctual with both the day and time that he said he would come. He was able to take out the driveway on a Tuesday, and then came back to repave on the Monday after, so we ended up being unable to drive on it for a week and a half (need to wait three days after). We thought that timeframe was very reasonable. Even after Eddie got paid and finished the job, he still spent time explaining his work to my husband. He also discussed the care and maintenance. He took pride in his work and seemed to really stand by it. In the end, we were charged the base price. We are very happy with our choice of Eddie and Blue Diamond. "Hiring E B Asphalt was the best decision we ever made. We have a very long driveway that was in tough shape. Rick came over to look at the job, answered all of the questions we had, and made several suggestions on how the job should be done. His knowledge and experience was quite evident. Feeling comfortable, we contracted with Rick to do the driveway. Within a week, Rick and his crew were at our house removing the old driveway, removing stone that would affect the new driveway, adding base gravel, rolling it multiple times, and preparing the landscape around the new driveway so that water run off would not damage the new driveway. By the next week (even with a few days delay due to rain), our brand new driveway was laid, and we could not be more than happy with how it looks. "This was the 2nd time I hired Alex Masonry; last year, I had them rebuild the stone retaining walls adjacent to my front entry stairs and widen the stairs as well (see photo and last spring's review).
This year, I wanted to replace my crumbling asphalt driveway, repaving the lower sloped end but using pavers on the top end near the garage, which is level. IMO, there's nothing uglier than a large expanse of cracked and potholed asphalt.
I had the contractor who will repave the lower end tear up the old asphalt on the entire driveway; then Alex's crew arrived as scheduled and performed the work as promised. The finished driveway is beautiful; it looks more like a courtyard than a driveway.
Alex is always pleasant and easy to work with and if you have specific ideas or concerns, he's responsive to your needs. The crew worked very quickly and did quality work. I'm in love with my driveway and I can't wait to show it off.
The price was not cheap but they had a pretty big area to cover, including a large space to left of garage that you can't see in the photo. I believe they  used 9 pallets of pavers. Maybe I could have gotten cheaper pavers, but Alex had faith in this particular brand, Unilock Camelot, so that's what we went with.
The driveway has just improved my home's curb appeal by about 300%. Thanks, Alex & crew!"
