"When I was locked out of my home I search on google for a local locksmith. Contacted Mr. Dominick from Safeguard locks, he is a very professional locksmith, punctual and charged me fairly. Before I decided to hire him I also contacted two other locksmith companies in Norwalk Ct but I decided to hire Mr. Dominick because his knowledge gave me confidence that he could do the job right. I was right, he was very respectful of my home, explain in details the job and the cost.. no surprises. If you live in Norwalk Connecticut or Fairfield County and you need a licensed locksmith for your home, car or truck look no further than Safeguard locks and ask for Mr. Dominick, he is truly the best locksmith I have ever worked with."

"I had a variety of small handyman projects - replacing doorknobs, patching holes, fixing molding, etc. the guys were very polite, professional, and knowledgeable. They took off their shoes to enter the hose, and did a great job, and kept me informed the whole time. I would definitely recommend them and hire them again!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

It depends on what type of keyless entry it is and if the locksmith has the proper tools to remove a keypad entry lock since some are more advanced than others. However, locksmiths can typically work around keyless entries to vehicles, so it depends on what type of keyless entry system needs opening.

Rekeying door locks yourself costs a fraction of what you would expect to pay a locksmith. On average, it costs between $50 to $100 to hire a local locksmith to rekey your house, though labor costs may vary based on where you live. For a DIY solution, you can expect to spend $11 to $25 on a rekeying kit.

The benefit of deadbolt locks is that they're much harder to force open than simple locks with pin tumbler mechanisms, so they may offer added security. This feature is why many locksmiths recommend deadbolts for home security. For many households, this added protection and peace of mind is well worth the cost of installing a deadbolt.

Any type of dead bolt lock provides the highest level of safety for a single device. However, it’s also important to determine a lock's grade. Locks can come in either Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3, which indicates how durable it is and if it’s constructed solidly. Safety experts recommend choosing locks based on Grade 1, which offers the highest level of durability.

Rekeying a lock changes the internal mechanism so that a new key works, while replacing a lock involves swapping out the entire hardware. Rekeying is a good, cost-effective option when you want to ensure old keys no longer work, such as after moving into a new home or losing a key. It's also ideal if you want to keep your existing lock hardware. You should opt to replace the locks entirely if you want to upgrade to a more secure or different style of lock, if the current lock is old or damaged, after a break-in, or if too many copies of the old key exist.
