"Murphy Home Inspections was easy to work with, punctual, detailed and took the time to explain everything to us. When buying a home there are so many stressful things to deal with and we are just happy this was not one of them. We would highly recommend."

Fault Finders inc specializes in reporting deficiencies to a high level as most inspectors miss what can cause long term stress for homeowners due to either lack of knowledge about rodents, air quality, water issues, humidity issues or just laziness. I have seen many homeowners in a home less that a year with these issues and incurring the expenses that go hand in hand causing financial and emotional stress. I have state of the art equipment to correctly inspect any home and while no inspection is perfect- it's as thorough as it gets.

"Fault Finders (Brian) did an exceptional job inspecting a large home we were planning to purchase. He identified several critical issues that a typical “check the box” inspector would not have bothered with. He provided a comprehensive report with dozens (~100+) high definition photos explaining numerous minor and a couple more important issues as well as highlighting key areas of deferred maintenance. The report also included descriptions of areas we should plan to regularly maintain after the home purchase. His service may not be cheap relative to a typical inspection but the value is incredible. We negotiated price adjustments with the seller to address a couple deficiencies that represented many multiples of the overall inspection cost. If you want to fully understand one of your single largest purchases before making an investment be sure to use Fault Finders as your inspector."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

If your home has a forced-air HVAC system, it will also have HVAC duct parts. Air ducts are connected to an HVAC unit and deliver heated or cooled air to each room; your heating and AC wouldn’t work without ductwork.

However, if your house has a boiler or radiator system for heating and doesn’t have central AC, you probably don’t have ductwork installed.

Replacing older chimneys or fireplaces, like wood-burning stoves, with something more eco-friendly can actually increase the value of your home. Some homeowners opt to remove chimneys as they pursue LEED certification, which may also increase the value of your home. But in general, many potential buyers actually look for operational fireplaces in homes, so removing a chimney and fireplace could decrease your home’s value by up to $5,000.

Annually, especially before the heating season, chimneys require an inspection to uphold conditions and maximize safety.

Certified fire door inspectors should inspect fire doors. These professionals receive training to specifically assess the condition, functionality, and compliance of fire doors. They often hold credentials from groups like the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI) or the International Fire Door Inspector Association (IFDIA). While fire marshals won’t usually do hands-on inspections, they’ll check that doors are being maintained properly during routine safety audits. If a building relies on fire doors for code compliance, it needs someone who understands the details—the difference between a cosmetic issue and a safety failure—and standards to sign off with confidence.

The time it takes to complete a pre-drywall inspection depends on the size of the home as well as the complexity of its build. Most take between one and three hours, but large custom homes or those with complicated HVAC, electrical, or plumbing systems take even longer. Your inspector will examine each room and each system in detail to make sure everything is properly installed and up to code.
