Customers say: Quality work

"Better Homes Siding and Improvements is an A+ company. Mary Lou and her crew go way beyond their jobs. They arrive on time, picked up after themselves, very responsible, trustworthy and will do whatever to make the customer happy and satisfied. I recently had an old wooden deck taken off and on new one put on a second floor. I used this company about 6 years ago for siding and 54 windows put in the home. I love the windows and 3 years ago, a new roof which Mary Lou helped with having it replaced. I am so happy with them that I don't ever bother getting prices from other contractors. Don't need to because I know she will go through whatever extremes she and her crew has to for the customer to be happy. She works non- stop including weekends which is unheard of. She is honest and very meticulous in her work and will stop by to make sure the crew is up to her standards. Her crew is unbelievable and their attention to fine details and great ideas are so welcoming. I am now waiting for new doors which Mary Lou has worked endlessly on finding what I wanted and needed. I won't work with anyone else but this company. The best is that Mary Lou stands behind her work and I have called her throughout the years with questions or problems that may have come up. She returns phone calls usually within 24 hours and will meet with you at your convenience."

Customers say: Quick response

"Elvin is great. He fixed my wood double front doors and applied paint that I had picked out, as well as new handles/lock. He took his time, was very polite, and made sure everything was in order before in left. My front doors look amazing. Will be hiring him again for more work around the house. Also, his pricing was very reasonable and on point for the amount of repair and painting work he did."

"Agile Construction was very professional. They asked what needed to get done and then came in and executed it flawlessly. They were able to answer my questions and explained the work and their methodology. They came to repair my window sill. And it looks way better than before."

"Second time hiring Action windows and I wish I could hire them for everything. Where it counts us if you have an issue and how it's handle. Small. Problem was handled asap and they even sent manufacturer out right away to repair it. Said they would do it themselves if necessary. Wonderful superb company to work with. You won't be sorry. I look forward to siding next with Action windows and siding."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

If your door has interchangeable inserts, you’ll likely want to swap the glass out for a screen during the summer months. The process to do so will vary by door, but you’ll follow these general steps: First, use a flathead screwdriver to pop out the retainer strips—the plastic strips running down both long (and sometimes all four) sides of the door. Then gently pull them out by hand. Carefully remove the glass insert from the door and replace it with the screen. Finally, push the plastic retainer strips back into place, working from top to bottom.

While the telltale signs can vary for different types of screen doors, it may be time to learn how to install a screen door if you're noticing rotting, warping, or splintering accompanying the sagging. If you’re unsure whether to replace a sagging screen door, consult a local screen door pro for an inspection and final decision.

Most window screens in residential homes are designed to be removed from the inside, especially with double-hung, single-hung, and casement styles. That said, some setups require exterior removal. Older homes or custom installs may have exterior clips or brackets, and sunscreens are almost always mounted on the outside. Before removing your window screen, look at how it is held in place.

The screen on many screen doors is held in place by screen spline. Screen spline is typically a thin vinyl tubing that fits into the groove of the door’s frame and holds the screen in place. To install the spline on a screen door, you’ll need a spline roller—a tool that presses the spline and screen into the door’s narrow groove. Note that old spline can crack and break, so replacing your screens is a good time to replace the spline, too.

While the benefits of garage door screens usually outweigh the downsides, there are some cons to installing one. First off, they can be quite expensive, especially if you’re having a professional install a retracting screen or a custom size screen. Second, they let fresh air and natural light in, but they also don’t provide the same privacy from people in the neighborhood that a solid door does. As you might guess, screens also won’t insulate your garage, so they’re often not usable in colder weather.
