Customers say: True professional

"Let's be honest: plumbing isn't cheap. But, you really shouldn't want to cheap out on your plumber, considering how important plumbing is to your convenience and comfort, not to mention your health and well-being. We've used Matt and his crew twice: once to convert a closet into a two-piece powder room and once to fix a kitchen drain that was leaking in the wall and dripping into the basement. It smelled awful. Regardless of the size of the jobs Matt and his crew have tackled for us, they've done the work promptly, correctly, and at a reasonable price. He's a good guy, too -- friendly, courteous, responsive and makes sure his crew members model that same behavior. You can trust Matt to do what he says he'll do."

"All of the people I dealt with at A.D.B. were very professional. The only issue was when I asked for references. The woman I spoke to said she would contact prior clients to make sure I could contact them. A week and a half later I was told that they do not give out clients names. If I was told that originally, I could have had the work started sooner. But the workers were quite knowledgeable. And answered all of the questions that I had. One reason I hired them is because their license is with the DEEP. The other estimates I received, those companies had licenses with the state as plumbers. I just felt that they may have had more knowledge on how to tackle the job. And another bonus is that the contract includes a one year guarantee. Not that expect I will need to call them back but it is good peace of mind. Overall, a great experience."

"I hired one plumber to do the job and just kept getting delays. I hired AA, and they had the job done in a day. AA did a copper repipe of my buildingâ s city water line. Iâ m still amazed with their organization and professionalism. I highly recommend AA for all your external plumbing work. Thank you Aaron and AA."

"Frank was very thorough. I had a new dishwasher install and he came to look at the setup and quote the job, and turned out he did the job the same day in the timeframe he quoted. He went through everything he did and made sure I was satisfied. I know he values his work when he said he warranties his work from any issues that may arise. I think I found my plumber for all my future plumbing needs!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Completing plumbing upgrades immediately protects your home from catastrophic winter freeze damage. Replacing outdated supply lines improves your daily drinking water quality and brings your system up to current building codes. In the long term, modernized pipes increase your property value in the local real estate market. Upgrading your fixtures also qualifies you for Connecticut energy efficiency rebates and lowers your homeowners insurance risk by removing vulnerable materials.

Helpful?

Address any active leaks, sewer backups, or dripping outdoor spigots immediately. Berlin winters bring severe freeze-thaw cycles that turn minor cracks into catastrophic bursts. Insulate pipes in unheated spaces before the first hard freeze hits. For non-emergency plumbing work, schedule your project during the fall. Spring ground thaws in Connecticut stress underground lines, so inspect your sewer laterals promptly after winter ends.

Helpful?

You are responsible for ensuring the permit scope matches your planned work and verifying the final inspection closure. When addressing sewer laterals, you must choose between traditional excavation or trenchless pipe lining. If your project requires shutting off the street-level water supply, you must coordinate directly with the local water authority. Finally, you must select your fixture specifications and pipe materials before the Berlin building department issues a permit.

Helpful?

Your home’s age and location significantly impact your plumbing projects. Older properties in Berlin feature outdated galvanized pipes, cast iron drains, or fragile clay sewer lines that require full replacement. Local geography also presents challenges. Rocky ledge and clay-heavy soils complicate underground excavations, while high water tables near the Mattabesset River make basement drainage difficult. Tight crawl spaces and fieldstone foundations add hurdles to routing new pipes.

Helpful?

Watch out for quotes that exclude permit fees or feature a vague scope of work. State law requires a written contract for home improvement projects, so avoid any professional unwilling to provide one. A legitimate Connecticut contractor will pull necessary permits before starting your plumbing repairs. Reject any bids from unverified out-of-state workers after severe weather events, and always request a certificate of liability insurance to protect your property.
