Customers say: True professional

"Let's be honest: plumbing isn't cheap. But, you really shouldn't want to cheap out on your plumber, considering how important plumbing is to your convenience and comfort, not to mention your health and well-being. We've used Matt and his crew twice: once to convert a closet into a two-piece powder room and once to fix a kitchen drain that was leaking in the wall and dripping into the basement. It smelled awful. Regardless of the size of the jobs Matt and his crew have tackled for us, they've done the work promptly, correctly, and at a reasonable price. He's a good guy, too -- friendly, courteous, responsive and makes sure his crew members model that same behavior. You can trust Matt to do what he says he'll do."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Purely cosmetic plumbing updates like swapping a faucet proceed without permits. Functional changes, such as relocating drains or adding fixtures, trigger mandatory inspections and require adherence to current Connecticut efficiency standards. Opening walls for cosmetic upgrades exposes deteriorated pipes in older homes, transforming a simple aesthetic swap into a complex functional overhaul that requires immediate system upgrades.

Helpful?

In Middletown, a slow drip or minor pipe condensation in uninsulated basements warns of impending freeze-and-burst events during cold winters. Slow drains in older homes signal collapsing clay or Orangeburg sewer lines rather than simple clogs. Address these warning signs immediately. Minor leaks point to system-wide failure of aging cast iron pipes, while local water pressure fluctuations easily worsen small drips.

Helpful?

Homeowners who skip required permits for plumbing installations like water heaters create severe issues during home sales and void insurance claims. Attempting do-it-yourself work beyond minor repairs violates Connecticut regulations requiring licensed professionals. Additionally, making spot repairs on aging pipes leads to repeat failures. Always winterize outdoor fixtures before the first hard frost to prevent severe seasonal damage.

Helpful?

Protect your family by testing water for lead before and after plumbing work in older Middletown homes. Ensure professionals install required anti-scald valves on new showers to protect young children. During winter renovations, plan for temporary relocation since extended water shutoffs risk freezing the property. Maintain water seals in all floor drains to block dangerous sewer gas from reaching pets and children.

Helpful?

Historic properties in Middletown feature original cast iron drains and lead supply lines that complicate modern connections. Slab-on-grade foundations make accessing pipes significantly more difficult compared to homes with full basements. Furthermore, properties near the river face elevated groundwater tables that interfere with drainage work. Homes relying on private septic systems require strict evaluations before adding new fixtures to manage flow volume.
