"From my initial contact with Ryan, to the appointment being setup by Amanda , to Cody doing the work, it was 5 star service! The first thing Cody said when he walked in the door was that he would not leave until both of my shiowers were working! Six hours later, both showers were working flawlessley with no leaks. I will utilize your company for all my plumbing needs going forward. Cody is professional and a perfect representative for your company! I would like to get a bid from you for a new tankless hot water heater and would like to request Cody for the job! You have secured a long term, loyal, repeat customer! Thank you again, a very satisfied customer! Jeff Haas"

"Jonathan promptly replied to my request, he and Caleb were here at the appointed time. After reviewing what would be the best option for my budget and needs, we agreed to a price and the new heater was installed the same day! Everything was done neatly, quickly and correctly. They cleaned up the work area and the entry to the house. They are very professional, polite and efficient. I have never experienced same day service done so well."

"It went great. This is the first time I ever tried virtual repair services. Once I booked the appointment and told them the general problem and the model number of my refrigerator, they sent me a confirmation email along with a link to the app that is used for you and the technician to connect. Also, they sent a list of items that I might need for diagnosis and repair. I found the technician to be extremely knowledgeable. He knew the components of the ice maker like the back of his hand and was able to tell me what to do to remove it as well as to take it apart to look at some of the internal parts to determine what had happened. He understood and was able to explain how it works so I learned a lot about how ice makers work and why certain problems that I have had with this one might occur. In my case, the ice maker was getting stuck in the fill position which was causing water to flood my refrigerator and kitchen. Its unclear why exactly it got stuck, because there didn't appear to be any burn out in the motor, but this model is 17 years old so the best bet is to simply replace it. I feel confident now that I can replace it without assistance. I would definitely do this again. Harmond was great and being able to schedule something the same day as well as learn a little about how to service myself was well worth the money and much less expensive than waiting for a service technician to show up to my home. If you're a little bit handy, I would definitely recommend trying it out!"

"I recently had the pleasure of working with PD Tile and Floor and their installer Pete to replace the tile on my fireplace insert, and I couldn't be happier with the results. From start to finish, the experience was excellent. Pete was professional, courteous, and incredibly skilled. He took the time to understand exactly what I wanted and delivered beyond my expectations. The quality of the workmanship is outstanding, and the new tile has completely transformed the look of my fireplace. Not only was the work completed on time, but Pete also ensured that everything was cleaned up afterward, leaving no mess behind. I highly recommend PD Tile and Floor for any tile installation needs. Their attention to detail, professionalism, and superior craftsmanship set them apart. Thank you, Pete and PD Tile and Floor, for a job well done!"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

No, boilers and water heaters are not interchangeable because they serve different primary functions. Boilers are used for central heating systems, providing hot water or steam to heat your home. In contrast, a water heater's purpose is to supply hot water for daily household use, such as for faucets and showers. A water heater alone cannot supply the warm water or steam needed for a central heating system.

While they are not interchangeable, it is common to have both a boiler and a water heater. In fact, a conventional boiler often works best when a water heater system is already in place. The two systems can be combined to provide both heating and hot water, either by pairing a boiler with an indirect water heater or by installing a premade combination boiler-water heater unit. For home heating, some homeowners may also opt for a furnace instead of a boiler.

Often, the first issue you might encounter is a lack or loss of power—this could be caused by a tripped switch or a failed heating element. If your hot water is not producing enough power and its size is not the issue, you might need to replace one of its heating elements. A leaking water heater could be caused by tank erosion.

It’s important to find the type of water heater that fits your needs and budget. Depending on the type of water heater, size, brand, and the type of energy you use to heat the water, costs range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Some of the most common types of water heaters include:

  • Electric: $600–3,500

  • Gas: $700–$2,700

  • Propane: $700–$2,500

  • High efficiency: $1,500–$3,000

  • Indirect: $1,200–$3,500

  • Hybrid heat pump: $1,200–$3,500

We recommend you turn off the unit, the power, and the water supply as soon as you notice a leak. Your water heater tank should have a dedicated shut-off valve located on the cold inlet pipes. If the valve is broken or inoperable, use the shut-off valve to your home's main water supply to stop the flow to the entire house.

Avoid touching valves or pipes directly without confirming if they are hot. Wear gloves and other safety gear to keep from coming into contact with hot levers or components when turning off your leaking water heater.

Most standard residential water heaters, which are typically around 40 gallons and use 240 volts and between 3,500 and 5,500 watts, require a 30-amp, two-pole circuit breaker. For smaller, point-of-use water heaters using 120 volts and between 1,500 and 3,000 watts, a 30-amp breaker is also often adequate. However, some models may have different needs; units that use more watts than average may require a 40-amp breaker, while smaller units might only need a 20-amp breaker. Newer, tankless, or more energy-efficient models can also require a higher amperage. Having the correct breaker size is crucial for safe and efficient operation, so it's best to consult a licensed electrician to determine the specific needs of your water heater.
