"Office staff was very helpful and professional. They took the time to address all my needs. Turned out I didn't need to replace the water heater. I am currently out of town, and would not of known the real problem if it were not for the honesty of the technician sent to perform the work. Saved me a lot of money. Will be calling them back as needed for sure."

"Ray not only answered his phone on the first ring, but he also came out immediately. To better explain the project to my wife, he returned later that night for an hour. He is extremely knowledgeable and personable. The pricing included professional and package discounts. Knowing we needed a working furnace in the midst of winter, his crew came 2 days later and within hours had installed the new unit. He then took time to explain how to best use the smart energy thermostat. We worked out financing and since installation, Ray has only been a call away. Plumbing & heating services vary widely, but with Mtn. Home Comfort, you get personal service, professional installation, and reasonable pricing."

"No water, but one Angies List company told us 2 weeks (because they were busy with air conditioners and hot water heaters), one told us the next day.  We called Advantage at 10:00, told us we would have technicians here by 1:00.  They were a little late, but called to tell us they would be.  Sean and David showed up, quickly assessed the problem, and began repairs.  Within an hour, the leak was fixed and we were able to turn the water back on!  With a household of 12, we were VERY grateful for the prompt response and fix.  We will definitely consider Advantage for any more plumbing issues, and highly recommend them.

"My old water heater went out yesterday and of course leaked water all over. I shut it off and stopped the leaking. Called early this morning looking for someone to install a new one. Jim was actually sent over by another plumber who could not get to my job right away. Jim showed up, looked at the job, we talked about the options and he gave me a bid. Let to get the new water heater. We back in about thirty minutes. He had to make some changes to the water and gas lines. Added shut offs and installed new one. Took the time to explain operation and maintenance of the new one. Cleaned up the work site. Removed all debris and old water heater. I was impressed with his work and his attitude.

"Service guy came as scheduled. Sent his "service" requirements to home base Home base calls back and lists, a very long list of what needs to be done and a very long list of what is not covered and what each item costs. The overall cost was outrageous and they weren't willing to give it to me in writing. Everything I had to pay for was overpriced, of course! They told me my other option would be to purchase my own water heater and they would reimburse me for what there water heater would cost, but no reimbursement for Labor, building permit, or any upgrades required by the local building department. The requirements of the building department were minimal. I went to Home Depot and had them do the installation and saved many hundreds of dollars. Lesson learned, have AHS do simpler repairs that don't require municipal building department approval. Have AHS pay for the equipment, and purchase installation from a trusted local installer."

"It went great. Had them install a new tank less water heater because our old one went out. Everything went so well we had them come back and install a whole home water filtration system. We love both items. The owner was awesome. She was friendly and accommodating. Would definitely recommend their services to anyone."

"Went well as could be expected, needed a part and ordered, when part came in found out we needed another part which delayed fixing our heat for almost a week in total, but having a carrier unit and not having parts in town is what made it difficult, not A+ plumbing and heating. I will be hiring for all future plumbing and heating work!"

Small jobs welcome

"I am a handyman myself, but some things are difficult to do by myself when shutting water off to an entire building with time constraints. I hired Pedro at RT plumbing, and he was able to come out to the jobsite with another one of his plumbers and knock out a laundry valve box replacement in a very timely and professional manner. The work was done correctly, and also important as well.... clean. Every line was wiped down after all the copper was sweated to a polished finish. Pedro and his apprentice got the job done same day which was great, too, and in only a couple hours. I would definitely recommend RT Plumbing and Pedro to anyone needing an experienced plumber that's prompt and does a professional job."

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

Yes, this would be an appropriate choice. In order to comply with the National Electric Code’s rules, you'll need to install a circuit breaker that's 125% larger than the intended load. In this case, you'll multiply 30 amps by 1.25 to find the necessary breaker size. Plugging that equation in for your 30-amp water heater will leave you with a 37.6-amp breaker. If your current water heater keeps tripping the breaker, it might be time to talk to a plumber or electrician about upgrading your water heater's setup.

A larger heater requires a larger breaker—unless there’s one already installed. The longer answer to this question is more nuanced. Do you place demands on the heater at the same time as running other heavy-duty appliances like ovens and washing machines? Do you live in an older home that may not have considered the higher electrical demands we have now? Breakers need to be sized at 125% of the load. To find that load, you should call a local electrical pro.

Your water heater's age can affect your homeowners' insurance policy. Many policies will ask how old the heater is when you first apply for a policy—and they may make you replace a model that's over 10 years old.

Even if your policy permits you to have an older heater, it may significantly reduce the amount of protection available. If an older water heater suddenly leaks and causes damage to parts of your home, your policy may not cover it.

The lifespan of a water heater depends on its type, usage, and maintenance schedule. Traditional tank-style water heaters typically last between 8 and 12 years, though the range can be as wide as 6 to 15 years. Within this category, gas models often last 8-12 years, while electric models may last 10-15 years. In contrast, tankless water heaters have a significantly longer lifespan, often lasting up to 20 years or more. Factors like heavy usage, hard water, and sediment buildup can shorten a unit's life. To extend its lifespan, it is crucial to perform regular maintenance, such as flushing the tank annually and scheduling professional inspections. If your unit is over a decade old and shows signs of rust, leaks, strange noises, or inconsistent heating, it is likely time for a replacement.

Storage, tankless, heat pumps, and solar water heaters each suit specific space constraints, usage needs, and efficiency preferences.
