Small jobs welcome

"I am so happy to say I have found a plumber I can trust to do good work for a fair price and who is responsive. They were very responsive to scheduling, arrived promptly, and were very friendly. They were very professional in their appearance and conduct. They got the job done quickly and explained everything in detail. I highly recommend them for anything leaks to pipes to plumbing! They are now my go to plumber!"

"Gary, the master plumber who came to our home and gave us an estimate and did the repair work was personable, friendly, professional, and very thorough. He was the main reason we went with Rooter Guy. They were the most expensive of the quotes we received ( we had 4 estimates). The solutions Gary provided were the least intrusive to our plumbing disaster. The work they completed is wonderful and we feel very confident the repair will last for a very long time! The day of the repair job they communicated well and cleaned up everything perfectly. I could not be happier with the work - just wished the job was a little less pricey. We have kept Gary's card and will call again for major plumbing jobs in the future."

"Think again if you think that these guys only do excellent drain cleaning, they also provide top notch plumbing services as well. Rocky, our plumber at Afford A Rooter, was dispatched out the day after I called. He arrived promptly, got down to business, and kept to the estimate. We no longer have the old cast iron nightmare that required constant rubbing of the white enamel, but we have instead a modern stainless steel beauty. Rocky was friendly and despite what to me seemed like a job with some technical challenges, got it done in no time and left the area spotless."

"I recommend Tyco. I hesitated calling them (I think because the hard "c" in the name which is weird, i know) but i have had them out two separate unrelated times. They gave me a price over the phone, didn't charge a trip fee, were totally reasonably priced, didn't do work that didn't need to be done but was very knowledgeable about professional about the work they did do. These are officially my go to plumbers!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Depending on the issue, you have a good shot at fixing a leaking sink yourself. If you have some plumbing experience or are comfortable with DIY jobs, you can clean the P trap, tighten nuts, replace washers, and replace shut-off valve stems on your own. For more complicated jobs, such as repairing a garbage disposal, calling a pro may be the way to go.

Plumbing installation costs in renovations typically range from $300 to $1,500 or more, depending on the complexity and specifics of the project.

Any drain in your house requires a water trap to prevent sewer gases from entering the home. Dishwashers don’t have an internal water trap, so they must use an external P trap. The most convenient P trap for the dishwasher is already in the plumbing under your sink.

To check the water pressure in your house, you’ll need to use a water pressure gauge, which you can purchase at your local hardware store. Locate your outside water spigot and attach the gauge (following the manufacturer’s instructions). Normal home water pressure is between 40 and 80 PSI.

Schrader valves are also commonly known as American valves or simply car valves since they're often used in tires for bicycles and motor vehicles. The valve gets its name from the company that created it, the Schrader company, following its invention in 1891. It was later patented in the U.S. in 1893.
