"Devin Dotson, the owner, spent the day at my home installing a new 200 amp electrical panel. I was very impressed with the quality of his work. He did a great job. He was thorough, marked every new fuse and labeled what each one was connected to. Then he tested everything in the house to ensure it was working properly. I couldn't be happier with Current Electric and highly recommend them."

"What a terrific experience we had with Mighty Bee Electric! Martin came the next day after we called. He was on time, clearly knows what he is doing and fixed everything for the estimated cost. And there was no upselling! I will definitely call him for any future electric work!"

"Tom is the only electrician I will ever hire. He is very easy to work with and was very accommodating to my schedule. His workmanship is excellent and he is very efficient. He is also very personable, and is always welcome in my home. He also quoted me a VERY reasonable price. What else can I say... don't bother looking any further, Productive Electric is the best company for your home project!"

"ELI was wonderful! He arrived on time, was friendly, thorough and quick. What really impressed me was ELI'S attention to the little details--he made sure no water, garbage got loose under the counter, used a mat to protect my floor/inside counter, cleaned up everything--even my sink--when he was done and, finally, put everything back under the counter where it was before he came! Above and beyond customer service! I will recommend AAA who anyone who needs drains unplugged! Also I like the company and especially the SERVICE so much, I'm meeting with a tech for another job--electrical this time. THANK YOU, ELI for your time, service and patience with my speech! much appreciated!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

A breaker won’t always trip if an outlet burns out. If the outlet is overloaded or has a short circuit, the breaker is designed to trip and discontinue power to the outlet. However, some wiring problems that can burn out an outlet may not cause the breaker to trip, so don’t rely on it as a signal that something is wrong.

You can determine what size generator you need for a transfer switch by matching the switch to the largest outlet on your generator. Larger generators can power up to 10 circuits, while most 5,000-watt generators can provide power to six circuits. So, if your generator’s largest outlet is 30 amps, you’ll need a 30-amp transfer switch.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

Yes, in a new home, ground wires are mandatory. Some older homes may not be grounded, but if you decide to renovate, you will need to have your electricity grounded at that time. Remember, grounding helps keep everyone in your home safe from sudden electrical surges. It’s best to hire an electrician to inspect and work with your home’s wiring.

A C-wire connects your thermostat to your household heating and cooling system to provide continuous 24V power. The furnace's transformer converts household electrical current into this low-voltage power to operate the HVAC system's circuitry. In most configurations, the C-wire connects to the terminals labeled "C" on both the furnace's low-voltage terminal block and the thermostat. In some cases, if a dedicated C terminal is unavailable, the C-wire can be connected to the "G" (fan) terminal at the furnace.
